@Hobbs I picked up the Garrett AT Max yesterday! It rained all day so didn’t get to try it out much but I did set a few different targets around to get used to the tones.

You didn’t try it out much yet because it was raining? What’s wrong with your Garrett, isn’t it waterproof? :notsure:

You know, that CL SDC-2300 I posted above may be a good option for you if you dont want to spring that much for the ZED. Minelab has a in-house firmware update for the earlier models that are supposed to make it run very well, and if you ever wanted to add a larger search coil, there are some Coiltek coils coming out for it with good reviews lately. Unfortunately, you would have to cut the existing cable and put your own plug on it to exchange coils (the newer model are supposedly having a plug built into them). It’s lighter and a lot more portable than a ZED too, and people are getting good results with it as deep as 10” with small and larger nuggies.

I ran my ZED with the 14 and a b&z booster I got from JP and had doubled my results from stock with the 19. I used the 19 underground with and without the booster and had better results with the 14 in same locations. I have dug up to 38 inches for nickle sized 5 gram nuggies. I think the zed with 14 is well worth it. I detected professionally for four years. I used my timber/ logging job as a consistent pay coming inand detected only weekends. Had 14 plus ounce days and was able to buy all my toys and stash some retirement money till the fire. After the fire I just had to start our rebuild out of our savings. I have to get back to my pay ground with a real detector. Thank you for tge info on the sdc though.

You are in a different gold region than us - no wonder why you should be getting a ZED. It definitely would not be as productive for us in So Cal where we don’t have much accessible big gold anymore, if at all. A good VLF is about all we need to get most of what we have here.

I think you meant 600 not 400. Very cool, didn't realize that they could add frequencies to the platform, not just updates. After reading that post, I wasn't sure if this meant that the 4khz is also added to the multi-IQ?

Isn't the Z&B booster just an audio booster? I'm tryna' understand how it is improving your nugget game.

When I run my zed it on kill. Very wobbly threshold and sensitivity almost full. What happens is the booster makes the distinct sounds amplify where as running less threshold I would miss those. Its hard to get uses to but its a lethal setup once you learn to tolerate it. Also never ran in deep mode because I miss a tone of shallow stuff. It's really a strange machine when running it like I do. Although thats part of
Why I had a professional detecting career, and the ground of coarse.

I also have extreem soil here. My vlf machines dont work at all. I do have an At gold that works great in hot ground, its just finding the right frequencies and discrimination to work.

The at goold has 52 frequencies to choose from it just doesn't show what they are.
It truly is a neat box to play with.

I just got a set of Koss TD80 headphones, they are 60 ohm, so low volume isn't an issue, they go very loud if needed, and each side has an independent volume control - they are great for fine tuning the volume balance to each ear and have very crisp sound quality, even with those almost silent signals on the GM. Perfect for those of us who have compromised hearing on one side over the other. If you do buy some, be sure to check if the individual volume controls are there (it’s a blue knob on the base of each side), because some TD80 models don’t have them for some reason.

This was a couple weeks ago, but I havent gotten to posting it here. Went to an -1870ish military site with a friend. Found this cool old lock that he suggested is most likely civil war era.
