When ordering from Rockauto I received this notice:

"We cannot ship to this address because it requires sales tax paid separately to state and city governments. We comply with state-administered taxes nationwide but we do not have the capacity to file city tax returns in places where we have no physical presence."

    :annoyed:

My city is on the western slope. About 400,000 other folks live here. So much for Rockauto.com and their low prices.

    It’s not a Rockauto issue, it’s a law issue.

Thank the state of CO. Last I checked Denver, Aurora, and Centennial were not valid options either.

Theoretically you could check the "Tax Exempt" box and then report the taxable value to the state next year when you file taxes.

Weird, just went to order stuff from them and got the same message... Colorado fucked up on this one, guess it's Amazon or bust from now on then.

    Ahhh, frustration: keeps me young!

I think it's a RockAuto issue because RockAuto is losing money by not shipping any product to Colorado. In any event, I was able to buy what I needed from AdvanceAuto:

Exact Fit for your 1998 Toyota Tacoma Limited-Disc Pad; Advics Ceramic OE Formulated Brake Pad Set w/ Shims; Front; SUMITOMO PS534

for $61 shipping and tax included.

Sure sounds a lot like crony capitalism. Smaller businesses cannot adapt like Amazon does, and so we get one step closer to monopoly. Good job lawmakers.

RockAuto is not loosing out anything by not shipping to CO. Get the state to fix their stupid tax laws in relation to online sales.

Their POS and accounting software will easily deal with this. That being said it is a ton of work to be sending out tax bills to every single city they happen to ship a product to.

I got a similar notice from Rockauto when trying to order a fender for my 04...they wouldn't ship to CA because of some state measure I forget which one.

For that in particular I believe it had to do with the company that made the fender not being in compliance with the state measure, so Rockauto couldn't ship it to me. Was annoying but just ended up getting a different one from elsewhere

I am afraid we are going to see this quite often as cities and townships make new taxes to help make up lost tax revenue to the great lock Down The county I live in wants to add a sales tax

Impact all the online sales that do not have a physical location in your town

sounds like your county needs to cut the fat, close libraries close parks shut down police and fire service, problem mostly solved
