Anybody have a RTT on their Snugtop Rebel?

I’ve been browsing the forums and haven’t really found a clear answer: Will a stock Snugtop Rebel hold a rooftop tent with 2-3 people? (Assuming 100lb tent)

I know they don’t list their static weight maximum; however, have heard it’s a lot higher than the dynamic max they usually put (around 250?).

Any insights to this? Would love to keep the shell and mount the rooftop tent on top; however, am also considering selling the shell to get the Diamondback HD cover with bars.

 

Order the sportsman’s package and snugtop says it’s good for 500 lb.

 

I wish I ordered it in the beginning- already have the shell.

Wondering if it’s possible to get a reinforcement layer after the fact if I take it to snugtop

 

Oh, gotcha. Doubtful, it’s a reinforced roof layer.

 

Is using the long bed to sleep not an option? RTT can be up to ~200 lbs fyi. (Normal CVT type stuff).

 

Going off that topic, were you able to find the weight of the shell listed?

 

We’re using the shell and the bed currently; however, I’d rather use that area to store more gear and sleep up top in the tent for more visibility and a better feeling of being outdoors. The shell gets a little cramped with a platform.

 

I get yah. Certainly different for everyone what’s important.

I’d be okay running a tent up there if I had bed stiffeners and didn’t wheel anything difficult. Without those 2 things I wouldn’t risk it.

 

Yep! But I do have the Sportman’s package. No issues so far, plus I’m using bed stiffeners from Total Chaos. Also my leaf pack is Icon RXT on option 3 and what you see on the side view is about 600-700 pounds in the rear of the bed with the tent, rebel and all the other crap I take out.

CBI bolt on with kick out and top plates. They are the HREW, I don’t do hard off roading.

Thanks. Looking back I wished I would’ve bought the OR Tacoma. But I’m doing everything I can to make this capable of what I’ll throw at it. Nitro gears 5.29’s in a couple weeks with a Nitro worm LSD.

 

Wondering the same thing but I got my Rebel used and it already had the Yakima tracks installed from I assume the dealer. But no idea how to tell if I have the reinforced roof or not. I emailed Snugtop with the serial number months ago but never got a response. At least I can store my gear in a basket or something up top, as I ended up installing a sleeping platform instead.

 

I’m hoping you can see how thick the roof is, that’s the indicator that it’s reinforced, at least that’s what the dealer told me. FYI the rails are covered by my mesh Velcro pouches so you can’t see them.

 

Mine is thicker up top and on Snugtops description of the Sportsman's package it states standard thickness is 1/2" and reinforced is 1". So maybe it is reinforced.

 

Where did you get the pouches from?

 

Amazon. They are just cheap Velcro pouches but come in really handy.
