I'll add that to the list of why I'll never live in Massachusetts.

Yeah I'll never live in a non-constitutional carry state. Or one with a magazine capacity limit. Just a personal stance.

Plus I'd have to sell about $4k worth of assets.

You guys still interested for the week of 8/24? We've narrowed the days to Thu-Sun (8/27-30), probably going to meet at/near my home in Cabot before heading to the border on Thursday, find a place to pitch camp and start heading south on Friday.

I'm thinking sometime early afternoon. I'd like to have plenty of time to find a good-sized spot to camp. If we don't meet at my place, I might direct you all to a spot in Burke that will be easy enough to find (not far from I-91 and relatively close to our 'official' starting point).

Edit: Also, what are you guys running for comms (CB, GMRS, FRS, HAM)?

Gotcha - yeah I can look at taking Thr and Fri off from work, if I can't get Thursday I might have to tag up Friday.

o_O yell out the window. Was about to take a HAM class in February ..........

Yeah, starting to look back into it. Will probably get into them when the weather starts to take a dive and I'm looking for stuff to do.

I need to do this myself. I've got CB and GMRS/FRS for primary comms, as well as one of those cheap Baofeng radios that I bring along JIC, but I really should be licensed to transmit on.

Honestly gmrs is more than fine and a great option if you don't want to do ham. For most group rides even a Walkie talkie is fine.

But if ya'll want to join me and talk from half a state away I won't complain. Hahaha. Ham is also sure shot for help if you break down in the middle of no where. It's great insurance. Way better than cb for that.

I mean that's the thing.... GMRS is great, HAM is awesome. You can get a really good GMRS radio, but it doesn't mean squat if your crew that you're out with is using CB.... :p

I'm thinking I'll probably work on comms this winter. HAM fo-sho, for what you listed - emergencies, a lot better than CB. Probably look at GMRS too. And CB. Going to be an expensive winter o_O

My GRMS/FRS is just a pair of handhelds. My wife and I use them when we're out mountain biking together because we ride very different paces and terrain sometimes, and having that lifeline is handy when somebody doesn't show up when/where they said they'd be. I toss 'em on the passenger seat and use them when the majority of the group is on GMRS instead of CB (which is hard mounted in the truck).

Yeah, I could do handheld. Would be cheaper. But then....it's me....of course I'm going to buy 3 full mounts for the truck, and maybe the handhelds too :D

Roger that! Jokes aside, I'll probably do HAM first and get a handheld, ultimate plan would be a full mount HAM, maybe CB. Probably just handheld FRS/GMRS. Unless I find one on craigslist or something. Thank you! Will be a late fall/winter project, want to actually have the time to dive into it and not just check a box to get a cool toy for the truck.

yup. GMRS even on a set of cheap handhelds from a big box store will get you through just about any trail ride in the NE.
