The only thing to remember about Houston is that the weather there sucks worse than just about any other place in the entire country other than other places that are also on the gulf coast. Cool city but just to just visit.

You've never lived north of the Mason Dixon line, have ya? Humidity sucks, but you don't have to shovel it.:rofl::rofl:

After over a year of considering a new place to live, we moved to the area just over a month ago. Big life change (divorce), my lady is a medic and wasn't thrilled with working night shifts in -20 below weather of Minnesota, I work in tech. We weathered the COVID peak in Minnesota, then the riots that burned our city down. We chose Williamson county for a start. My kid sister who lives in Dallas sent me a great quote:

"Wouldn't it be nice if Americans loved America as much as Texans love Texas?"

The Texan attitude and H-E-B have made the move well worth while. I can complain about anywhere, but this is a nice area; it's hot, but not as bad as I remembered from years of service at Ft. Hood.

We’ve had some heat up here in Rhode Island. Past couple days has been the same :D

but we don’t have the heat carry overnight and it’s only a few weeks vs like 6 months.

6 months? hehehehehe. And that 95 is being suppressed due to the hurricane remnants, which makes the humidity like Houston

Yeah the humidity here is on par with that. New England is fun for that sort of stuff. Seems like about 6 months of 90+ and then it tapers down to a more reasonable 85.

Your favorite Tundy/FJ40 owner, winter of '00/01, Woodbury, MN. We got 77" of snow that winter, and that was my house in the background. Because I refused to have something in the garage during the too short summer that would remind me of the too long winter, I never bought a snow blower, and shoveled all of that. Uphill both ways, or something like that... I gave the Sorels and the shovel to my BIL when we left for Texas; I would never need them again.

When I sold the house in Pennsylvania, it came with a snow blower and 3 broken snow shovels.

Move question: I found a decent gig that I think would fit my background, it's in Heritage Hills area of Austin. What's it like traversing Austin for commute - I really have my heart set on living at or near Zilker for the initial move (renting, apparently....given the property values). Unfortunately seems like all the stuff that lines up for me is north/east (manufacturing).

Rhode Island - We're just a tad south of that rain/snow line into a temperate climate, we do actually see about +10 degrees from inland Mass here, and we generally see way more rain/way less snow - but I did bite the bullet and got a craigslist electric snowblower last fall. I used it once this past winter - basically because I wanted to give it a whirl, it was like 2 inches of snow and I could have probably just left it to melt. I have the tacoma now, wife currently has a camry but I'm trying to convince her she needs a 4runner :D :D if that happens, and we stick in RI - F shoveling. Usually if we get any semblence of significant snow in RI, it melts within a week. Just truck on over it for that week :) :)

Its not that bad lately. But when schools open again, if ever, and people start going back to work/play....just your lane choice on Mopac in certain areas can increase commutes by half an hour.
