Understood but my thoughts are let’s say you have 18 payments left at X and then a residual of Y. X + Y = what you’re going to pay anyways if you bought it at the end of the term. Can you buy it out today so to speak at the X + Y price? You’ll get rid of 18 months of payments (not money, just time)....pending you finance today the same amount of time you would have financed at the end of the term.

I would never lease but it is a great source of 2-3 year old vehicles with low mileage that are like new. Certainly a win for the next guy who picks it up lightly used.

if you can pay it off in cash at the end of the lease, then do that, otherwise you are then refinancing it again and if you finance for another 4-5 years then once its paid off you should drive it for double the loan time to get your money back...or give it back and get a decent used one for less money..

OP...don't listen to the financial geniuses telling you how you should live your life. You probably make more dime than any of these guys. In the end you have a choice between a used truck (happens to be yours) or trading it on something else (new or used). BTW, buying a certified pre-owned Tacoma (often leased) is still as expensive as fuck. Dealers live off those transactions.

Buying used became VERY risky these days - several major hailstorms during the past 2-3 years and MANY major flooding...
and to be honest, if I had to make a Taco decision again, I would probably steer towards brand new 4Runner.
The only reason I leased the truck was to simple try it (never owned or driven one in my life prior to this one)
I found MANY used - 3 years old Tacos with same option like mine, with 30k plus miles for $35k and more (which is ridiculous as it is more than brand new's MSRP)

Yes those of us pointing out a lease is a bad financial decision obviously don’t know what we are talking about . If he ends up keeping his he will have spent $50k on a Tacoma.

The OP can do whatever he wants. He came in here asking for our opinions.

I'm being dead serious when I ask this question and I'm not being a dick: is this the first time you've bought a vehicle? Where do you live with these voracious Tacoma buyers? Last thing, I thought you loved the Tacoma despite all the people who complain about it. Why are you now saying you'd prefer a 4Runner?

Money is money man. The way you talk legit sounds like a car salesman. You have totally taken their BS hook, line and sinker. You're going to pay for that 0% in the price of the vehicle, they're not doing that out of the kindness of their hearts. You can get financing on a used car for 3% or less if you have good credit. Especially if you're buying a car the right way by putting down AT LEAST 20% and not financing for more than 5 years.

He already leased the vehicle so why tell him he was stupid for leasing the truck? Its water under the bridge. Sounds to me like it was a good choice for a first-time truck owner who sounds like he is moving on from the Tacoma after the lease is up.

People are gonna do what they're going to do with their money and that's fine, but it really blows me away how many people (especially the younger generation) don't know how to buy a car. I would bet you anything OP finances the taxes when he buys a vehicle. And it's not his fault but no one has ever taught him how to purchase and he probably thinks the salesmen are there to help him.
