I think Ford made a big mistake by not bringing back the Torino model as a Retro like the
Chevy Camaro and the Dodge Challenger, both of which still sell very well.

The Mustang has had a great run for many years but Ford needs a new pony in the stable.

    Maybe they will reconsider someday

In the early to mid 50's big block power (mostly Hemi's) were used for big heavy cars
that needed a ton of torque to get moving, Then in the 60's some genius figured out if you put
a big block into a small chassis car you will be faster than the other guy. Thats when the power
wars started at the big 3. We as consumers were blessed with some fine automobiles during this time.
Up to the oil embargo, and the feds jumping in and mandating the restrictions in engine cu in and h.p output.

Many of those cars we lust after and loose sleep over have been pictured on this thread.

My brother had a 66 SS Nova , 327 ,4 speed, fire red w/ black interior. Stunning car and fast as hell. did not last a year.
Somebody wanted it badly, A New York auto theft ring operating in the area stole it one night right in front of the house.
A lady living down our street told police she saw 2 men working on a red car under the street light about 3 am.
Never saw the car again. Feeling really hurt about it my Brother then went to the dealership in Melbourne and purchased a brand new
1970 SS 396 Nova, Midnight blue, dark grey cloth interior, 4 speed. This car was then babied and very seldom driven. kept in a locked
Air conditioned garage until around 1990. The car still had many of the original parts on it. and just 13 K miles.
He decided it was time to sell it and made some calls to a friend of a friend - and a guy from Reggie Jackson's Auto collection called him
and made an offer. He sold the car in 1991 for just $33,700. Which for back then was a decent price. Today that car would have been
worth well over $125,000. As far as I know the back seat in that car was never even sat in. And even up to the point he sold it it still
had the brand new car smell. I know he kicks himself in the ass for ever parting with it.

This is what it looks like to be half a foot short of two feet.

"Big Daddy" Don Garlits. I think there was a discussion a while back about clutch/flywheel explosions...for those that don't know, that's how he lost part of his foot.

That’s what led him to build the first successful rear engined top fueler.

Others had messed with rear engine stuff, Garlits made it work.

Funny how loosing a body part makes for some interesting design changes all in the name of safety.
But it had other benefits like putting more weight on the rear wheels. and directly coupling the output of
the transmission to the rear end. The guy was a genius. From what I saw at the drag racing museum he
was obsessed with anything scary fast. And that includes crazy fast.
