Toyota gasket for the pump assembly
    new Denso pump
    new Dorman tank

Hopefully @Speedytech7 might chime in but I think he's saying it's not a good idea to take @Sperrunner advice

I don't know if he's being funny or if he means specifically about this particular topic.

I personal wouldn't put 10.8 bolts in that location, I'd use 8.8 .the majority of forces put on hardware in a vehicle are shearing forces (from vibration) not compressive or tensile forces... that was why I shared that side note with you

The BaT 100 series is at $38.000 with one day remaining. Will it make hit $40,000 in the next 24 hours?

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2005-lexus-lx470-2/

It has a lot of nice stuff. In looking at it, I believe I'm pushing the under armor and suspension envelope just a bit further.

I been know to say sas and 40s for everything.

Im no car expert nor do i pretend to be. So i do get things wrong. Like suggesting getting sae grade 8 when he needs metric hardware. Usally someone catches it right away. But also why i dont venture out of this thread.

So every time I've dug into this Grade 8's are brittle thing, I end up with the idea that Grade 8's are stronger than 5's period. To put it short, a 5 will deform and break before an 8 will even begin to deform under all the conditions you'd find on a vehicle. Have you seen something different?

Yes and no. When I worked as a fabricator for manufacturing concrete cutting equipment the owner and creator was not an engineer, he was just someone who had a really good idea for a missing niche in the market. As he branched out and built and designed more than just saws he made sure we used nothing but grade 8 hardware, and within 500hrs of use (less than years worth of work) we had hydraulic powerpacks that were rattling themselves apart because bolt heads were just snapping off

We tried blaming it on shitty quality hardware from our tacoma screw vendor and he was the one that first taught me the difference in grade 8 and grade 5. We switched over to using grade 5 and the problem went away. The machines that i would repair after a year of service needed all the hardware retightened but almost none were broken.

If you've ever met a professional concrete cutter they are a unique breed of people... usually way more strength than common sense so I attribute the grade 8 breakage to a combination of how exceedingly hard they are on their equipment as well as the extremely high vibrations and shock loads associated with the job.

With all of that being said, I've not seen a difference in automotive applications

I don't want you to feel like I'm calling you out or anything. There's PLENTY of time I don't know shit and need corrected as well.

Besides bro, I think more of this country's problems could be fixed with tons and 40s :D

Hmm. I've heard similar stories about ag equipment too. Maybe the Grade 5 is acting more like a spring and allowing some give and preventing the equipment from self destructing, versus the 8 which just holds everything absolutely clamped with no give.

Thanks for the insight! This is on my mind since I'm going to need to replace some bolts once I start putting the back half of my taco back together.

I bought one for my 93 4runner long time ago, it was only $40. How times have changed. I think I'll just make my own for the GX.

The biggest similarity between power equipment types is the almost complete lack of suspension or dampening. Almost everything is rigidly mounted so I think you're onto something about it acting slightly like a spring.

The other point I'd like to make, especially in our cases as regular guys trying to DIY, is cost point. Full retail of hardware can get expensive as shit if you don't have a hook up, so in my mind why pay more for a bolt or nut that you're not getting the full advantage off?
