Potential future transplant. Currently in RI. swung through Dallas on a road trip a few weeks ago, loved the city. Initial move we're thinking move to Austin, then explore Texas. Anyone have any thoughts on that? Dallas vs. Austin? :p

$5500, 91676 miles. He's got the parts to do timing belt and stuff (standard 100k service) but hasn't installed yet. It runs great and just passed inspection. I've known this guy since high school, so he's trustworthy. He's not in a rush to sell, but said he doesn't want to keep up with 5 cars anymore. He's got an MK4 Supra, S2000, 2 Civic SI's and this IS300 for just him and his wife.
    I'm one cool grandma
Hmmm...we can't talk politics here, but the 2 places are COMPLETELY different. Maybe check out Denton? Its a little weird like Austin, but with a lot less homeless people.

Is there really that much of a separation between Dallas and Ft. Worth?

I guess I'm thinking aside from Politics. I get that Austin is much more of a transplant from California city ... o_O Culture, food, etc. I basically fell for Austin - Zilker Park and the town lake trails/greenbelt. I don't need the city to be weird, I'm fine with (hope this isn't too puhliticuhl) right leaning, 2A, etc culture. I was in Dallas for a short time, but it seemed not as "in your face" about it all anyway.

Denton wouldn't be a bad placement, if I ended up getting in with aircraft maintenance at DFW, AAL has a big facility there I think (I am currently in aerospace QA with a background in Maintenance/Repair/Overhaul). Cool to know.

I think - off hand, we did a week in Austin together. I think it makes the most sense to make the big move there, and explore outward from there to other cities. I hit Dallas, Huston, Austin, San Antonio - realistically, liked them all for the short times I was there though.

2nd shift inspector? It's behind a login but I searched for the number.

Not wanting to come off as pretentious, that job is way below what I'm looking for, if the details line up to similar roles in our plant. Ironically, Textron HQ is in Providence - where I'm at now.

We don't have a whole lot of culture in Dallas. Its a big city with not a lot to do unless you like to eat and shop. Our top tourist attraction is where a President was assassinated. Ft Worth has a little more personality with the stockyards, but still not many exciting things to do. I've had friends visit from other parts of the world and I sometimes have a hard time coming up with things to do or show them after a couple days. I think DFW area is a good place to live but not the most exciting place to visit. But, being near the middle of the country and DFW being a big American Airlines hub, its easy to travel anywhere in the world. Austin is a great place to visit and just a 3 hr drive away too.

That's fine. I'm not sure what you do now, that's just the first one I found on our list. I didn't realize it wasn't available publicly.

That said, general QA/QC positions are union, so starting on second shift is to be expected based on seniority.
Management and engineering are different, if those apply to you.

Both zoos are pretty decent, Dallas has that park over the highway with food trucks, and White Rock Lake is great for running/walking/biking.

We also love breweries and food.

But yeah, there could always be more.

We moved from the sticks/woods to Providence, RI. Providence is very similar to Austin in vibe/culture, when we had family visit initially we would say "Oh yeah we can do X Y Z etc!" but like, you can only go to waterfire so many times.... https://waterfire.org/ (PS - if you ever visit, check it out for sure, it's just not something you want to do after you've gone 20+ times :p) I feel like that would happen even in Austin. We went for a week between xmas and new years a few months back, after ~4-5 days, including a day of renting a car and driving around to see places outside Austin as far as potentially living there (Buda, etc) which is kind of a boring day all things told, there's only so much more we had as things to do.... Bats will be cool, but how many times can you watch the bats - sort of thing. I like the city in terms of wanting to live there, and certainly think the initial move will be there and we can explore other cities, but once you live in a city for a while - your level of "exploration" turns to new restaurants you haven't been to yet.

Both cities have a "november project" (my wife does it, workout club thing). So that's a selling point I guess actually.

Thank you! I'll keep that in mind, right now we're kind of "stuck" in Providence until the end of the year, probably through March. Realistically for boring mortgage reasons, it makes sense to stick here until Sep 2022 at the earliest, and also with the whole 'Rona going around, poking the employment bear might not be the best move? We'll see. Much appreciated though, if I find anything at Textron I apply to, I'll touch base!
