DFW has a much bigger aerospace industry than Austin does. Lockheed, Bell, American Airlines, and then a bunch of smaller vendors

    0 :(

We have a lot of opportunities though, so if someone is looking for work, I'll help if I can.

We used to get a $2k referral bonus at my company but that went away when Quikrete bought us a few years ago. We get nothing now.

yeah - when you have major hubs like that, you tend to get a small aero community. I'm in RI - we are from PW in East Hartford. There's a small community around GE Peebles, Ohio with Wright Pat in there too. Honeywell Sky Harbor in Tucson. San Francisco, Miami, and DFW have small aero communities due to major airlines repair centers.

Might look to leave aero though, I have wanted to go to high volume low mix (think medical, automotive) instead to get that different perspective, if I even stick to manufacturing. All depends on a bunch of things.

Wait seriously? That blows. Then seriously, thank you for your time so share the job! +

My company has a decent benefits setup, we did just cut tuition reimbursement for graduate level from 7500/year to 5250/year (same as the undergrad amount now). Was nice - could do 1 class/semester including summers, now it's basically set up to 1 class/spring & fall semester, skip the summers. :notsure: I finished right before they sent that out though.

What’s your preferred entertainment? If music is your thing Austin is better. If sports, DFW has everything you could ever want.

Austin is “commercial weird” now. All the weirdos left when California moved in. There’s a different festival or cultural event almost every weekend but I tend to leave town when that stuff happens because the city fills with idiots. DFW definitely will have better job opportunities in the aviation field and the cost of living is less ridiculous than Austin. I love it and probably won’t get too far away but it seems like going north would be a better fit for you.

Our benefits are pretty good too. $8000/yr tuition, good insurance, etc. Hurst location has a clinic and pharmacy with super cheap meds/OTC stuff.

One of my coworkers got a friend hired on and she quit 2 days short of the 90 day mark, so he lost his bonus! I'd have told her to tough it out for a couple more days and split it with her.

Sweet. Yeah I feel like our benefits are on-par with the "decent" benefits camp. There are better, for sure, but we're good. And my plant, at least, they don't drive some ridiculous 80hr/week mentality. Nobody has time to do anything, and there's always more to do. 7-4 or 8-5, depending on your job (hour lunch).

Our current setup is that under a referral hire, the referer and the new employee each get some set bonus, don't know what it is. Cheaper than paying a recruiter, I assume though :p

Id love to work for bell, my dad worked there before. In anything I wanted to apply for, it says a degree is necessary though instead of necessary or equiv experience

    Apply anyway.

I don't know anyone in IT, but sometimes those requirements are flexible.

Same... Stepdad retired from there, so Bell has been part of my life for a long time. He was a Manager on the V-22 development.

I need to look and see what’s open, cause I’m ready to get back to work.

Just applied for this one. I might apply for others if I see any. Do you know anything about it?
