Well the middle section is never gonna look like the outside of it.. at some point the previous owner must have has a large fire inside and the metal super heated...oh well.. progress is being made . Slowly.. but it's gonna get there one of these days haha!

Some good high temp paint will fix all those issues.

I have a small sandblaster unit .. nothing I have tried so far has touched the old paint/primer which is why i resorted to using a grinder with some flap disc wheels.. once I get all the paint off I will hit it again with the sand blaster and remove the surface rust.

It's making is a slow and tedious process especially in this heat/humidity so I've only been working on it an hour or two at a time. Currently in a heat index of 101F

Switched from a flap wheel to a pumice type stripping wheel on the grinder and made some great progress today before the heat/humidity got too bad.

No progress today... Light rain this morning with storms forecast this afternoon. Surprisingly, the stacks unscrewed quite easily.

    IMG_20200726_125136.jpg

Saw this hog roaster online...some website where you can rent this for your party or whatever.. two things from this photo have got me thinking...

First thing.. I like the idea of the wooden shelves.. the ones in the pictures are removable/moveable.
    IMG_20200726_125342.jpg

Secondarily... From this photo and many others in my research.. it could make sense for me to just build the grate for the top and abandon the rotisserie all together?
I would still be able to roast a whole hog and use it to smoke/grill a large amount of other things.

    Decisions decisions....

    Motor mount there

    IMG_20200722_150941135.jpg

    Motor mount removed.

You can see the way it was mounted was just trapping moisture and dirt.

PRO TIP: A spray bottle with soapy water keeps the sawzall blade lubricated and cooler.

    IMG_20200729_130337404_HDR.jpg

Cleaned up with the stripping wheel

    IMG_20200729_135403169.jpg

The rest of it about 95% complete as far as stripping the old paint and primer and rust.

Nope... I'm honestly considering ditching the rotisserie and just having a grate. I can always figure out a drive system later.

I'm at a point where I need to buy a welder and learn how to weld so I can make some changes before putting this thing to the test.

Mostly just a test to see how this 1200F rated paint is going to lay down.

I know 95% of painting is prep work but I'm not exactly building a show piece... It's definitely not perfect but it does allow me to see what will and will not be hidden with the paint.

Primer isn't recommend and clearly a lot of things show through... I wasn't expecting miracles or anything.. hopefully a couple layers of paint will help

Not ideal conditions for painting as the wind was blowing but I was impatient! Haha oh well!
