CV Boot Replacement

I recently replaced my inner boot as the boot was cracked, flinging grease everywhere. I bought an oem boot kit from Toyota. I put the inner boot in, which slips over the inner joint. However, the new joint seems quite loose. I tightened the clamp pretty tight but I’m worried it will still leak. Anyone have this issue with a loose fitting boot? I’ve watched videos on replacing the inner boot and they seemed to have to stretch it over the inner joint

 

Inner boot is easy.. outer boot it nearly impossible. You could buy new clips and use the right to cinch then down.

Well those say they are for tundras so tundra axles may have a larger diameter shaft. However, those are just adjustable hose clamps... you can buy them at home depot or lowes. Dont let these companies upcharge for simple hardware because they claim its an overland special.

 

I bought the Tacoma specific ones. Yeah I realized that once I got them lol. Oh well it’s too late now

No the boot itself just seemed loose. Where it goes over the inner joint, does that make sense? Like it didn’t take any effort to slide the boot over it. Not sure if that’s normal or not

 

hmm thats an odd situation. Maybe the boot was a defect? or it was hot and thus stretched more while you were installing? or there was grease on the cv which allowed it to slide on easy? not sure.

Did you give it a tug after you cinched down the clamps? Did it pull or move?

 

It seemed to be on there pretty good but I haven’t driven it since. I guess time will tell, would just be annoying after taking it apart

 

Yeah it would suck to have to redo it BUT if you do, then i would recommend the high angle boot kit from CVJ. That boot will fit and ensure the ribs dont rub. GOOD LUCK
