Anybody recommend a good replacement for the 2nd gen radio antenna. Mines starting to look like a pipe cleaner after kindergarten art project. Wouldn't mind a stubble as long as reception doesn't go to complete shit.

Had a stubbie, the issue with the stubbies is they don’t flex. I brushed a branch on a trail like a month after getting it and snapped it off at the stud. That was about 12 years ago. It’s still broken off in there. I always hated the radio and the constant fake endorsements. So no real loss.

Hey Colorado folk. I'm planning a trip for next month. I'm looking in to campsites along the way. I figured I'd ask some of the local yokals to see if I can get some feed back.

I'm curious if anyone has had any experience in the Aspen/Independence pass area. Specifically Lincoln Creek Rd to Portal Campground at Grizzly Reservoir.

Just wondering if this is a spot that gets overcrowded, or anything I need to look out for.

Be sure to check out The Grottos on Independence Pass right before you turn off onto that road. No comment on your specific question as I don't know.

Right on... I saw the Grottos marked on the map. Wasn't sure if it was something we need to check out. As long as we'll still have some daylight (to get to camp) we'll definitely put it on the list of things to check out.

It is pretty busy, the further off of 82 the less crowded. Go past the campground.

So I guess that means you've got no answers on the spot I asked about?

Thanks for the info... That's kind of what I was thinking. We don't need to camp next to the lake. I'm just looking for a cool spot to stop for the night. I was kind of thinking we'd go past the camp and camp somewhere between the lake and the Ruby mine abandoned cabin.

The “lake” is really more of a tailings pond from what I recall, and not that appealing. The rest of the valley is quite nice though. Enjoy!

Lmao... 'Tailings pond" That's kind of what it looks like on satellite view.

How's the road going back in there? It doesn't look like anything less than a normal fire road. We may be getting in there late (depending on how many stops we make etc).

I just thought this would be a good stop off to get some sleep before Independence Pass and making it a quick easy ride going in to Colo Springs. (We're going back to visit my kid for a couple days at Ft Carson)

It's an 8 day trip for us, round trip from CA to CO and back. Looks like we'll be at this camp on a Friday (just the way it works out). Hopefully we find a decent place to park.

What I'm really worried about is being closer to Colo Springs (the next night). We are planning on staying 2 nights in Colo Springs. 1 night camp, 1 night hotel. The close proximity to Colo Springs (and Saturday night) may prove difficult to find a spot.
