My "mechanic bench" is backed by 3/4" ply wood I had laying around, helps to deaden sound! I'm sure a sheet metal place could do that, Burnside sheet metal maybe?

Where it's 10' long it might be a struggle, would have to be something that comes in a roll or something.

    I've been thinking of this.

I don't know any place that would bend it for you. When I had the slider plates bent, my shop had to farm it out and never told me who that was.

but if the metal is thin enough, could you not just "hammer" it over the corners?
do I understand it correctly? you are going to have a wood table that you want to cover with thin sheet metal?

You got it. It’s a bench with a top made with lumber. Just want a thin metal topper for it so the oils, dirt, shavings and whatever are easy to clean off.
I don’t think at 10’ that I could ever hammer it anywhere close to straight. Just needs the bend so I don’t catch myself on the sharp leading edge.

I’ll probably just google sheet metal in HRM and call around for quotes. Working in buildings I have seen much much larger pieces of sheet metal bent for giant hvac ducts so someone has the tools to do it. Just hope they don’t want a fortune.

If the metal is light enough, I'd try to bend it on your finished wooden bench by pinching the metal against the wood with a piece of angle or square tube and some clamps. Might be too redneck?

I thought about that but the metal alone won’t be cheap and I’d certainly screw it up haha

Rona used to have a brake you could use if you bought flashing aluminum from them, maybe ask where ever you're getting the metal from?

Changed out my faulty knock sensor over the weekend. Spent A LOT of time fussing around trying to reach under the coolant lines between the heads, and if i had to do it again I would probably remove at least one of them like it says in the Toyota manual.

Now I have a misfire code on cylinder #2. I'm going to verify that the plug is sparking, but I am thinking I might have messed up the injector while I had everything apart.

did your heart skip a beat?
mine does when stuff like that happens.

Anyone done any cool camping or fishing? I've been camping a few times, but only in my pop up and in camp grounds.

Stayed a night out at Laurie Park Monday, had to go to work Tuesday but I left my kid and canoe there ( under adult supervision of course), going back tonight to pick them up. Taco didn't really like that setup for the canoe, going to have to come up with a better method of support.

    oh snap!
I was at Dollar lake this weekend. How did you like Laurie park? I've never been.

as for the canoe suitation, Talk to @Canoehead, he's got a sweet DIY canoe rack that fits 2x canoes, and a little birdie told me he's looking to deck the back of his truck...... Buy it off him and force his hand :D

    also is your tailgate bent?

    Aren't they all?

Laurie Park is nice. I don't really have anything to compare to as far as parks go and I didn't use any of the facilities - just swam, ate, slept and left - but the sites are a fair size and nicely spaced, the lake is beautiful and the only staff member I met was super laid back.

Canoehead mentioned his rack to me, I should have asked for a test drive ;p (He also told me I should talk to you about getting some sliders - maybe once I get all my "deferred maintenance" out of the way..)

Could do. Idler pulley is on my list, right now I've got back shocks, a slave cylinder, and a front ABS sensor and hub seals in boxes waiting to be put on. Problem is I have more chores than time right now. One thing at a time I guess.

I fell off the cliff at Laurie park once!

I had to get rescued, I couldn't walk for a couple days, bruised muscles in my back and ass cheek, and broke a bone in my elbow :D

    lol,
no. If I have the puller, then it will never get done!

actually I need everyone's help for a moment.
where can I order some boat parts in Dartmouth? Specifically a carb rebuild kit for an Evenrude 2.3hp 2-smoke outboard ( from the 2000's )
She sat waaay too long with gas in it.

Whitewater marine is an Evinrude dealer. Dad got a carb kit for the '80 7.5 from them.

I was just talking to my Stepfather about this the other day.
breaks used for aluminum flashing only come in one size. 10' He's never seen a bigger or smaller one and he's been building houses for 40 years.
I asked him about doing steel in it, and he was pretty hesitant to even suggest a size since the breaks are usually made out of aluminum, and meant to bend aluminum.

i'm sure there is a way.
what if we just welded it and did a modified Pie cut on it?

like get it the size you want with the overhang you need, then we take a thin cutoff disc and make slits in the steel to make it weaker and easier to bend, then once bent, we weld up the slits. I've done this with trying to bend thicker metal, and its worked well.
