That last one is just using bandana fabric let alone having it hang open. It’s the worst for face coverings, but as they highlight - it’s way better than nothing.

I wear masks everywhere I am supposed to, religiously. I do have my "safe bubble" of people I know who also wear their masks religiously and follow all the rules that I will spend time inside with sans-mask, which is just my wife's immediately family. My Mom, who's high risk, is someone I don't spend much time inside with, and when I do, I distance.

EDIT: I don't have issue with being outside around close friends if we're not right on top of each other. I don't do the whole "bring separate silverware, food, tables, lawn, air" thing, but I try and keep it reasonable.

We had to take the little one for a COVID test during my vacation week (because of course) as she spiked a fever. Given that it was her second week back in daycare, it wasn't surprising she got hit with something, and we knew the COVID test was merely a formality, but we wanted to make sure we were responsible and test her.

Work with a mask is rough. I'm allowed to keep them off when I'm sitting in my office, but I have to wear them once I leave. The back lab has been 85-90°F all week, so couple that with safety glasses, a hard hat, long sleeved shirt, jeans and steel toed boots, it's a not so awesome time.

I've been following the MA positive rate, which has been holding up reasonably steady, so I'm hoping that stays. I know my wife isn't looking forward to going back to school this school year, but with the hybrid model they're proposing, she's about as safe as she can be. I miss seeing my friends and having a social life as especially with the kids, it's a bit isolating, but so far, so good. I don't see myself going to an inside sit-down restaurant in the near future, although I have dined outdoors once and it was nice to feel semi-normal for even the smallest amount of time.

Thanks. And I’m sorry to hear that your wife’s aunt succumb to this too, Rob.

Well I'm still up for it if possible.
    Not it!
No! Not after that. I sound deadened and had to replace the rug after that fiasco.
    Read below.
    That's it. Not again.
    Thanks.

Was supposed to go to a buddies in CT this morning to help him build a staircase. Woke up middle of the night with food poisoning, and just incase it is a viral form, will postpone. Last thing I need to bring home to my 8 month pregger wife is a stomach flu

Did a lot of extra work yesterday so I'd be free today, now I don't know what to do with myself all morning. The tint for my Raptor Liner is coming in today though, so I might just finish that all off this afternoon  Finally got my blinkers working after an attempted LED switch worked briefly then quickly went bad.

First time in two months with working blinkers, I'll tell ya, it feels good

My workers have been wearing masks for 2 years since the industry went silica crazy. Not surgical masks but N95 respirators. We don't need to wear shields but glasses and now the real kick in the pants... gloves. Try taping drywall with gloves on, I don't know how they do it but they do.

Explain this a little more? I did some drywall at my BIL a year or so ago and we didn't do any precautions? Wasnt the mudding but the cutting and putting up.

edit: point being I had no idea was big safety issue. Doing more in basement soon so wanted to get better idea.

There seem to be more people interested in my half-baked adventure than I expected there to be. I'm going to whip up a dedicated thread for it.

I will admit to dragging a bit this morning. The neighbors took us for a cruise around the lake last night and we didn't get back into shore until around 12:30 and ....several.... drinks

ya silica is been shown to be shit.

gloves, can’t stand them, can’t imagine using them while working. Honestly, gloves don’t make much sense to me. Great place for the virus to hang out and spread.

We're one of the companies that mandate everyone wear gloves, glasses, vests, safety toe boots and hard hats. We've found some newer gloves that people generally like. You can use the touch screen on a phone with them on, they fit very well and allow for a lot of dexterity. I still had to argue with a safety guy who was trying to make a tel-com guy wear gloves while he was sitting in a computer closet making final terminations on a fiber optics line (any of you who have seen that operation know how ridiculous it would be to have that particular guy wear gloves)
It's due to the fine dust generated by the drywall through cutting and sanding. If you're really good and have minimal sanding after you mud a joint, you're going to be a lot safer. If you're like me and really suck at taping and revert to the method of slather the joint, sand it all down too far, retape and repeat, then you could end up producing a LOT of dust. For my house, I make my cuts outside and use an orbital sander with an attachment to a shop vac. I end up with very little dust produced.

Pontoon boat? The mini van of the seas. Man, that's my wish is having a boat on a lake. One day, maybe..... I'll settle for the bay in RI but that's still out of reach for us right now too.

Also a difference between a DIY job for a few hours and 40+ hours/wk for years as a career type of thing too.

Yep, the guys that do that type of work for a living just make it look so damn easy. When I redo a room at a time, by the time I get half decent at it, I'm done and don't have to tape anything for a couple of years until the next project.
