Running Boards or Tubes?

I am going to add a set on either to my 08 access cab. I like the look and its will make it easier for the Mrs to get in and out.

I was leaning toward Westin boards as they are wider and look like the are sturdier than tubes. Will these get in the way? Any Cons to putting them on?

BTW I dont off road at all so that is not an issue.

So what do you guys use/recommend?

 

If they're strictly for assisting the Mrs. getting in and out of the truck, I'd go with boards. I've got bars and they don't stick out enough to really be effective and they can be slippery and be more of a hazard than a help.

 

i tell ya what. Tubes are junk. people thinkthey look tough i think... which is contrary to true. i personally hate them and their fake toughness.

i bought the running boards for the kids sake. theyre All step, not a tiny pad on a slippery tube and theres no paint to scratch. they bolt into welded nuts in the body. theyre the smart choice.

 

everything westin makes is junk and universal fit... buy the toyota ones...

 

i have the nfab steps. I picked these because they actually go down and actually help you get in a lifted truck. My girlfriend loves them beacuse she doesnt struggle to get in. The only thing I dont like is that when wet, they are slippery.

 

I looked at the NFab ones because they do actually drop down.
They are pricey though.

Island I hear what you say too. I looked at the Westin, but have no information about them. They aint cheap either.

The issue I see with boards is they don't seem to drop down at all. Might as well step right into the truck. How much drop do they add?

 

I called my local dealer to see what the havem he suggested the running boards. I got the part no and did an online search.

I just installed a small lift on my truck and had to add some steps to make it easier for the wife to get in. I chose the N-fab steps for the same reasons as Tiresmokintacoma. The OEM running boards look ok, but the step up looked too high for my wife. Hope this helps.

I had an o8 access cab. We put on some westin running boards and loved them. A short time later my knees gave out and we had to sell the truck and get into a 4x2 instead. I took the westin boards off after only being on for about 2 months. If you are considering used ones let me know.
