I don't back out as much as I used to. But, I don't really want to climb around in the mud and get covered with it if I can just go around. I'm not interested in mudding. If I were, I would have put mud tires on.

Actually.. the first case in Dane county was brought to us thanks to a respiratory therapist in waukesa son who was studying abroad.. in England. My friend did a private climbing guide trip for them and they explained their situation since they did test positive prior to it expanding further in WI. And there's currently a large lawsuit against 4 euro ski resorts because people from worldwide traveled there and people are blaming them for spreading it. My manager/owner says he's almost certain he had it in January right after he traveled to 3/4 of those resorts because he had all the symptoms but the CDC / department of public health had no interest in testing him based on timelines.

So I'm not sure why you've decided to blame a country.

There are some pretty big and deep mud holes in the Lakewood/Loana district. I'm usually alone up there. I'd be more apt to try my luck if there were another truck along for a speedy recovery.

I need to drop my skid plate again to clean off the 50 lbs of crud sitting on top of it again. Mud is a pain in the ass... and unavoidable where I live :(

Yes. I have a Kinetic strap, winch shackles, 3 snatch blocks......

I"m prepared for a recovery. I just don't want to dick with it when I'm by myself.

All this stuff and you don't push yourself to see if your going to need it, you need to have more confidence in the truck to find it's limits.

The first question when seeing an obstacle is if I get stuck do I have a way to get myself out, meaning is there a winch point within reach, then figure whats the best approach and if it's doable to try.

Now if it's a hole filled with water and you can't stick check it to find depth turn around is best, but if it's a sloppy muddy area that you can read then the only reason to turn is I don't want to get my truck dirty.

Most of the mud in the upper area of wis is mud on top of a hard base, (at least thats my experience).

Remember if you get your shoes muddy, you can always take them off and put them in a bag.

My rant is over, carry on.

way back in time when I had my 82 Toyota Pickup Truck single cab 4x4 with the 22R engine with manual locking hubs, I used to go 4 wheeling in Louisiana, and you couldn't avoid mud. I usually avoided really huge areas of mud, and heres why. There was a popular mudding place outside of Lafayette that all the local boys used to "Abuse" their trucks in. I mean this place had a mud hole that boggled the mind. After a really good rain storm, I used to drive out there on the weekend and watch all the hardcore "Mudders" going at it. I watch another Toyota owner bury his truck up to the doors. There were about 10 trucks out there playing around in that mess. Me I was just watching. The Toyota almost made it out, but it bogged down. They actually had to throw him a rope to drag him out. He climbed out of the window and was up to his waist and was unable to wade out. It took 2 full size Ford 4X4 trucks to drag the toyota out. I just never understood the desire to push a truck that hard, and avoided large mud holes when ever possible. I've driven across streams, and small creeks, and have had to high pressure clean out tons of mud from the undercarriage. But to deliberately abuse my truck, never.

I have plenty of confidence. I also have common sense. Getting stuck in the middle of nowhere, alone, without cell reception is not my idea of a good time. I already mentioned that I would push harder if I had another truck ready to yank me out if I get stuck.

Or, is there a way around?

I'll drive through if it's shallow enough to get through in my hip waders, and has a solid bottom. Sloppy mud with a soft bottom is not something I'm about to dick around in on my own.

I've seen videos of trucks with giant mud tires getting stuck in mud. I don't stand much of a chance on AT's with minimal ground clearance.

And then what? Throw them away? And drive around barefoot? I bring extra shoes, but it's for emergencies and also for comfort. I don't really want to ruin my shoes unless there's a good reason.

    Ha.
A reason why I would turn is the hidden stump I’ll hit. It’s more how I broke my new truck and had to get a tow 200 miles home. My wife would never let that moment go!!! She still doesn’t understand taking a brand new truck and beating the shit out of it on a trail.
( I never have) I told her now it’s classified as used and I’ll just buy another one!

Well you should meet us there. I’ll watch your adventures from the detour lane!

    :mudding::mudding::mudding:
My truck sits way too low to attempt things you guys do. My frame sits lower than the highest lug nut on your wheels. Also no locker, sliders, recovery points. (stock sport)

My tires have 30,000 miles. Now that’s the adventure!

ask @Cipher94 , I was out of my comfort lane on the Trans Wisconsin adventure trail and most (all) was just gravel roads and small water crossings. I’m more concerned about breaking anything since I drive it almost 700 miles per week for work.

plus my wife would never shut up if I damage it! Lol
