I get your point; I just don’t agree with it. I don’t think that people are claiming it’s some force field that prevents all the dings from happening.

Same thing with the stiffeners. The stiffeners help to prevent the bed from spreading. No one is claiming that the stiffeners prevent all bed damage

    Do I need bed stiffeners?

Try parking on a steep side slope with a shell and rack and gear in the bed and see if you can open your tailgate.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
I like my total chaos bed stiffeners because of the extra tie down points, and the stickers. And I ran for 50k miles with an rtt on at all times, while wheeling and dding and never split my bedsides, so I guess they work

I just had a bunch of 18 foot 2x8s in my bed helping by dad build a pergola. Guess what? My bed is perfect too.

Bed Stiffeners make people that think they need them sleep better at night. Mostly the ones that lay in bed and can hear their frame rusting so they get up bright and early the next day and do the "A/C Drain Mod". lol

    yup! lol

I really dont see what the problem here is.... you either GET them or DONT... If people are "on the fence" then get a pair and sleep better... if you feel they dont work... then dont get them... lol

Its not an item like sliders... there is no argument in will sliders protect you on the rocks better than NO sliders...

Dump your beds in the bed and
make use of stiffener tie down points
for taking the beds to your dump

I’m sure you done enough times it works, but going to have to throw a disclaimer that removing your tailgate is done at angle. If left like this with no load acting down possibly the tailgate Could jump out on a bumpy road with the proper tailwind. Ya ya unlikely, but there’s always that onnnnneeeee Guy. Lol

Great point. I will add that. From my recollection, it is barely unlatched when it comes free? I only did it once and can't remember exactly. But, I can also see a bouncing around TG getting to the point and bouncing, like you're saying.

I do have a SS hose clamp for theft protection on mine, so I don't really know what stock would do.

    Bed stiffeners, are like oil catch cans;
If you think they are useful go for it.
Are they a good idea? sure.
    Are they necessary? debatable.

If you wheel or have any kind of weight on your bed, especially if you wheel it matters a lot

Maybe not After the first day of putting weight on but over time the bedsides will get pushed out from the tail gate

    So no pics then?

Amazing how a simple pic ask devolves into a pissing match about door dings and sliders.

BTW Avid steps are NOT sliders they are steps that would get torn off on the first rock! Don't wheel them, you'll have instant regret!

Still would like to see bedside failures, so if your a failure post up! ;)

Sheesh, people... it was a simple ask. Here OP, this poor schmuck didn't have bed stiffeners and look at him now... Insta-regret.

Don’t worry, I’m very much aware they aren’t real sliders. That’s why I referred to them as sliders/steps. I’m in south GA, so no rocks to crawl here.
