Your right, you should stick to the lighting and key fob mods.

There are a lot of mods you can do to any vehicle, no where does it state that if you own a Tacoma you MUST lift it... if this forum is only for those that lift your trucks then I have come to the wrong forum.

There are more Tacoma’s here with too much lift, than the right amount of lift. Lifts are way overrated.

I don't think they have made it clear at all. It's dealer discretion. If anything they have so muddied the waters that any good attorney would argue they knew they had a problem, but failed to take control, and the action they did take was not executed well.

I don't believe the issue is with aftermarket grills, or incompatibility with said grills or lifts.

The required sign off has to do with the auto default to TSS on.

I think this is about being able to say, the driver knows they must engage TSS every time and the driver will receive a warning if the unit were malfunctioning because of a defect or incompatible after POS setup.

CEC1BF43-9D48-46B2-B4E3-2C4109B60FC8.jpg Truck was lifted by dealer 3” without voiding the warranty. Changed OEM grille, dropped the TSS and haven’t had an issue. I’m probably going to get crucified for this, but the plastic Pro Grille is overplayed and common. Lead, don’t follow..

My dealership was pretty clear on it, I can lift it if I wanted.. they would even do it for me if I wanted BUT there would be issues with the TSS stuff. I do not think it is Toyota causing muddied waters, I think it is dealerships. My dealership was upfront and was clear that Toyota official states they are not to be lifted due to the TSS system.

Now maybe my dealership was also just misinformed and told me that to cover their own butts.. but it seems to me the dealerships are the ones taking on the liability issues if they lift it against Toyota's official recommendation.

Lifting the truck does not automatically void a warranty. However if you get into a situation where the dealer is stating that your modification cause fault in the system being repaired then that system could be voided due to the modification.

This thread seems to state that a very specific system is being discussed here, not the whole truck.

Yeah I don't doubt what you are saying, but if Toyota wanted to be clear, they would have official documentation that at the time of purchase the buyer signed a letter acknowledgimg. That they were informed. As it is, it is at the discretion of the dealer which is why I say Toyota has not done enough.

    So let's say, you...

    1. Lift your truck at a dealer.
    2. A TSS failure happens which contributes to a collision with a pedestrian or car.

Toyota may claim that the operator and dealership failed to follow guidelines, and therefore Toyota is not at fault but convincing a jury is a harder burden.

A wrongful death lawsuit may be multi-million a, and shared among at fault parties.

The only one with the money to pay is Toyota (maybe dealership).

Worse still, the fact that Toyota has a TSB and knew the severity or probability of malfunction, but failed to act in a what a jury determines reasonable /meaningful way may make them more at fault in the eyes of that jury.

Until the first legal action is taken.. we will never know the true outcome. When it comes to legal proceedings... facts are subjective and fluid and 12 laymen decide what "facts" they perceive is correct.

Well, I finally gave in and signed the paperwork with Toyota of Escondido for the TSS recall/service campaign after they guaranteed that I could turn the TSS back on with it staying on after power cycles and that there would be no sticker applied anywhere on my dash. Low and behold, they refused to do the recall because my pro grille didn't have some sort of "cover" on the back of the sensor. o_O

Yeah for the win! I like the way it's working now and haven't had any issues with it. Eventually, I may make my own "cover" to help limit water from getting to the sensor, but until then, I'll unsub from this and if
I ever do figure out a nice permanent cover for it, I'll post in the future.

Good luck with whichever decision you folks make.

I'd leave them a bad review for this stupid policy. The sensor is the issue not the grill.

It's not a TSB. Sample notice attached. You don't need the notice, your dealer will look it up by your VIN.
