I look at your carb numbers.... yeah I can't do that, then I look at your protein numbers... yeah I can't do that either, then I see your fats and I'm like yeah I can do that LOL

Goddamn you have to eat so much.

I'm around 150c/180p/150f, on training days I'll hit 200g carbs, which is roughly an IPA and an extra apple :)

Lots of sweet potatoes, rice, frosted flakes post workout, and Karbolyn intra workout. It's really not that much, I could easily eat another 1000-1500 calories if I spaced it out.

All my fat is from walnuts, butter, and salmon.

    Training days here: P 210 F 90 C 380
    Non Training: P 210 F 85 C 255

The question is, can I call it carb cycling just because the carbs are not the same all across?

I just listened to a podcast with him and Alex Viada. I enjoyed that podcast and need to listen to more of Ben's stuff.

I eat potatoes or rice at one meal, the rest of my carbs come from cottage cheese, yogurt, and fruit. Oh and yeah.. beer.

I did the math and I eat about 1lb of nuts a week. I don't think I could go a day without a handful of nuts (haha). I may die.
    Fatty meats, butter, and oils.

Also, BBQ pork rinds are the fucking bomb.

HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT?

When I was serious about stuff, I hated eating. The volume of clean foods needed to get the numbers you need to get really big is effing absurd. I used to make my oats with egg whites and some frozen fruit and then eat them at my second or third meal at work and it was like eating a tub of gooey cement. The other fave was oats, egg whites, and tuna mixed with hot sauce and a tiny bit of blue cheese and then microwaved until it was sludge like. That one was actually tasty but made my wife dry heave when I would make it.

Thats kinda what I don’t get about bodybuilders.
Complain about how much you have to eat, then you eat egg whites.
Why not whole eggs? More calories.

What I have enjoyed about IF is, eating truly is an inconvenience. Now less of my life is wasted eating. :)
But it has taught me go for nutrient dense foods and not fluff so the time spent eating is efficient.

I struggle on my 3200 cal days. Can’t imagine having to shove down 5,000 AND stay healthy doing it. Whole foods are a lot of volume.
I’m so not gonna lie, I had to look that one up LOL

Well when you want something bad enough you do the things to get you there...re: calories, I never bothered with calories, it was all macros. So whole eggs weren't worth the fats as I wanted a scoop of PB later in the day. The things we do when we are young. That said, the muscle memory at 40 something is great. I can eat way less and maintain a size that is still bigger than most...even if I am puny compared to where I was.

Also, please tell me you googled that with image search on while you were at work? Please? I need this.

Level with me here. Is hitting every macro perfectly every single day really, truly a necessity?
I doubt it highly, but obviously I’m not a bodybuilder and have never been on a stage at 200+lbs and 4%, so I could be wrong.

I think you have minimums you need to hit but I think theres a lot of room for some variety.

I see these folks eat the same shit everyday because it hits all the macros just right. Shoot me if my life ever comes to that.

I have my protein minimums and fat minimums but I enjoy flexibility with the remainder of my calories.

And no I didn’t search it via images on my work computer :)

Well the macros do matter quite a bit if you are looking to be your biggest or leanest....but what really matters is consistency. So day to day the variance wouldn't be such a big deal but there would be an impact over week/months. That and BBing is such a huge mindfuck that consistency is a way to combat that; when it feels like things aren't working that day, sticking to the plan helps get you through that. I imagine it's much like a running program in both respects...the program is there to get you through the days you are not quite up to jogging in the sun and sure, missing a run to drink a craft beer isn't going to kill you in the short term, but long term and you might morph into a strength athlete.

Superstition is pretty common in all sports and I think that may be what drives a lot of that behavior.

You are correct, dedicating yourself to a goal when it comes to eating, sleeping, training, recovery, and saying no to vacations or going out with friends/SOs because it interferes with sleep, food, or training does come with its own mental stressors that can be overwhelming.
You are correct and I do see how it can make someone feel better by just sticking to the simpicity of a bland meal plan. That and I know eating the same thing just simplifies things.

My goals the past two years are trying to adopt changes that are sustainable and not to commit myself to anything I don’t enjoy and have to force.

I quit running in 2014 due to getting sucked into being competitive. You didn’t want to be around me if I hit one 400m repeat off or had to skip a day due to school/vacation. My week was ruined over it.

Consistency is important, dedication is critical, but so is flexibility. The world doesn’t end because you were 5g shy of a protein goal or were suck and had to skip a gym session, or for some odd reason you only did 10 repeats instead of 12.

This could be why you’ll never see me sponsored by anyone or quitting my day job to compete. :notsure:

I also do want to say... its funny how I never fit in anywhere. All the lifters here peg me as “a runner” but the running community pegs me as a “lifter”. “You’re that guy that will never qualify for Boston because he can’t put down the barbell” but also “that little brah who can’t DL because he runs too much”

    :)

Ever since something in me clicked and food was not an issue anymore, it's incredibly easy to consume my meals, even at 4k+ calories while eating clean. Rice, beef, eggs, oats, cream of rice. My meals haven't changed in over a year, cutting or bulking. I am now on 2600 for my cut (because I was so fucking out of shape) normally cut on 3k. Bulk on 4k roughly. Last year I bulked on more, probs 4500 or more.

I quit BB for the same reason. I was not balanced and enjoying life and the slope towards unhealthy behaviour is too tempting.

also, this is the internet. If you are the runner who can’t deadlift it’s only because that’s what you told us.

lie. Fuck it. I can benchpress a car I’m an ex rugby star with degrees from both Harvard and Yale....

but I think you’re fine here as you are.

Its odd to think right now I eat more than you
I just think its funny. I’m like that with everything. I’m very Libertarian politically so in public health I’m shunned because I’m too conservative but I’m also a dissapointment to my conservative family.

It means I’m special so I’m good
