    Hey all,

I've looked through absolutely all posts about a wet passenger side in an 2005 taco that I could find and nothing seemed to fit my case. I'm not a mechanic and learn as I go, hope I can get some help here.

The passenger side floor mats are wet after it rains.
Water is not coming in via AC drain.
No drains that I can see are clogged, I took the cowl off and washed it all.
Windshield looks like it's well sealed and could not get it to leak, same with the door seals.
It does not seem to come out of one of the grommets, but I probably can't see them all.

When I direct water into the very corner (closest to passenger side mirror) water is trickling in BEHIND air cabin filter, the cabin air filter itself is bone dry. The issue is I can't actually see where / how high it is actually entering. The truck has seen a fair bit of sun, so seals are probably not great.

But is there a way to see behind without pulling the whole dash out?
Or is there a way to just completely seal that passenger corner and reroute the drainage?
Is pulling the fender going to do any good?

Thank you all up front for your time and help!!

There is a TSB that addressed that issue. Let me see if I can locate it.

Here is a TSB for that leak:

The TSB will tell you where to look and how to fix the seam leak. It was a known issue on some 2005 Tacoma's.

Have a look at the grommet for your antenna cable (behind the passenger fender) it may have popped out.

Oh man, I can’t believe it. How many service bulletins are there for Tacoma water leaks?

Anyway, thank you so much for your reply. That looks like the solution. Not sure how I did not find that in any of the threads. Is there a list of all the service bulletins for a certain car? Because mine was in for a recall in January and this wasn’t on the list...

thanks again, I’ll post if this fixed it.

And Havoc, same for you. Thank you! I know the antenna is kinda loose, will definitely check the grommet as well once I’m under there. Hope it stays under a 110F today

You're welcome. TSB's, recalls and warranty enhancements (frame replacement) are three separate things. With TSB's, the dealer will fix it if the TSB applies, the customer has a concern and the vehicle is still under warranty.

Any chance somebody has found a video on this? Or maybe a picture of what exactly they mean by left front cowl seam / left lower front cowl seam? In my case the seem to be an awe full lot of holes/cracks. I’m really hoping I won’t have to take the fender off

Did the bubble test described in the bulletin aaaaand no bubbles up top. Will try the fender part tomorrow. But would really love to see what they exactly mean by seam - I just sprayed the whole corner.

This is the seam on each side they are talking about.

Thank you so much. I figured that because of its age that positive cabin pressure test (or the lack of) might not be 100% reliable, so I will reseal it anyway. Will work on that and see if that fixes it

    Thanks again!!

Great thread, hope it works! Unless TSB cowl fix was done already, while your in there I'd go ahead and make a shroud to cover the fresh air intake. If it's not already leaking, it will be :)

UPDATE: Had water running off the windshield for 5+ minutes and the inside is still dry

Thank you all for the quick help, especially you @Jimmyh

And @jboudreaux1965 , I will. Haven’t been able to find smaller pieces of flashing (I’m currently in Mexico), but might get some tomorrow. Had cut up a plastic Walmart box lid, but not trusting it will stand the constant heat.

Here a couple of pictures, hope this can help somebody that has the same issues - thank god I didn’t have to take the fender off

Great job! Lol, I used a Walmart plastic bin as a temp fix once too! :) To really test it, you have to overload it with water, to where the water can't drain off through the vents fast enough and it backs up. The whole channel fills up and over flows. The problem in the design was that once the channel is overwhelmed the over flow went into the fresh air intake. :)

Care to expand on that a little, so as not to high jack a PM will work fine. I see nothing wrong with my comments in the "Canadian Tire A/C Thing". I'd love to hear your thinking as long as you don't resort to name calling as that OP did.

Great you got your leak stop. Typical bs with toyota tsb's they don't fix any thing until it breaks on you. Been stranded twice in different Prius's both fixed for free but got stuck with a tow bill

Cheers man. Had another thunderstorm here since then and both, the plastic lid and new seal worked. Walmart actually had spare lids without a price on them - and they actually gave them out for free. First free thing I've ever gotten in a Walmart hahaha.

I did reseal the box as well while I was in there and will post a pic once I have the flashing in - even though what I found was way thicker than what I wanted. Not sure I have enough trust to fill up the whole channel though - don't usually get that much rain here in Mexico, so I'll just cross my fingers there.

@tonyl13 Sorry to hear that man. So far I've been lucky there, got entirely new leaf springs from the dealer via a recall and they did a whole check up for free. Not bad considering that the car is 15 years old and I had bought it used for 10k. That said, they obviously didn't look at that cowl tbs.

And @Jimmyh & @Bleep100 - now I kinda wanna see that thread hahaha
