I’ll be helping myself to some XOM today with some dividends that came in.

I got about $100 in dividends today. Can't afford CVX and XOM with it. I'm leaning toward 2 shares of XOM since it's beat down today.

Yep, back to April sale prices. And dedicated to the dividend as you posted. I set some aside the last couple weeks to pick them up at the next dip. Seems to be the day.

People may get butthurt about firing employees to sustain the dividend, but there should be nothing more important than profits going to owners. Because what's the alternative? Nobody wants to own the company, market cap tanks, and there won't be a company for much longer (and thus, no employees). They need to purge the balance sheet in any way possible!

It's a double edged sword working for a corporation like that. I work for one. I know at the end of the day I am an employee ID number and salary (...I mean....and age, race, and gender, but I won't get into that). If the mothership says I'm gone, the mothership says I'm gone. Tough cookies. It's a "risk" in working for a multi national billion dollar "conglomerate", our sector can be popping off but if another sector is hurting - bad - we could be given pay cuts/etc to balance overall.

Yea, it sucks, but saving the business is the priority. Keep shareholders invested, and you survive and the jobs can come back. Unfortunate, but reality.

You've just explained my entire issue with health care being publicly traded...first priority should be providing affordable safe treatment for patients...but it's not...it's to turn a profit FIRST...that even supersedes the Hippocratic oath..because the accountants aren't doctors...

If you think only the beanies are concerned about this in a corporation, you're wrong :D our old operations manager used to use that line: "Don't tell me the parts will be late, I'm not your customer. You own stock in the company, the parts being late means your stock price goes down, or your dividend is cut". Everyone is concerned about it. And if your "parts" are "people", yeah, that gets problematic.

    .....no more puhlituchks.

I almost dropped NRGU, but I might drop 3/4 or something like that instead. Might put 1/4 of that in NRGD and just see what happens o_O maybe start playing with short term 1-2 day holds of NRGD/NRGU.

I think it's the market created competition that should help reach the goals you mention. I see it exactly reverse if the government ever takes over healthcare, I see that as a pure disaster. I'd rather see the market force what we need through free market competition.

I was toying with something like this pre earnings...but then I decided to move $ to a completely different sector and ride out the pain...Maybe I'll DCA more NRGU...I'll add 10 shares every time I want to kill myself because I'm down 25%....I'll have 2M shares by noon!

Yes, but they should exist (as my PRIVATE company owner once told me) to make $1. As long as we make $1 at the end of the year everyone is paid, 500 employees have insurance, 401K, food on their table, homes, cars...He said he doesn't need millions of dollars..He's got enough money. Just make $1...anything over that and we get production bonuses...
Now mind you the company still has millions in revenue, and costs etc and it's making more than a $1...but the only thing that's NEEDED is to make $1 an have all the bills paid.
Publicly traded healthcare systems need to make $1 and then $2 and then $10...acquire, consolidate, close, move, fold...bill bill...deny coverage...Fight in court...it's a messy topic but a huge problem...

I have been using government healthcare for about 12 years (through the VA). I am very thankful for it and appreciative of it. But, and it's a big but, it can be rough. I have gone years without even going to a doctor when I lived in a big city because it was such a zoo and they treated you like shit. It's much better where I live now in a smaller town. I don't think it would work on a large scale, it would be a disaster. I could go on for hours on this topic.
