IMHO it’s the only way to train a puppy. And it’s a safety factor for them and security for your house not being destroyed. Especially while you’re gone or sleeping.

absolutely. It’s work in the beginning but makes for an overall easier time training the dog. Helps with separation anxiety and potty training. Young dog like this, she should be pretty good in a week. Older dog takes more time obviously. My husky was 4 months a took about a month before he was good

That mal will be too smart for his own good and he will decide when you’re ready to be done with crate training

And then he will test you for the rest of his days but make it all worth the time and frustration

Our new pup, 3rd addition to the pack...currently she is scared of our Dutch, and the Dutch is curious but cautious...our 12 year old lab mix is terrified of the puppy, but the puppy loves her

    The cat hates everyone

Same with my boxer. Even after I took the crate away he was still going back to that same spot where it was. Now he's back up in age. He cant really hold his bladder anymore. Just yesterday I was walking thru my kitchen and stepped into puddle of piss. Mind you I had just put him out 20mins before hand. But not much I can do at this point. Just try to make him as comfortable as possible. It's a sad reality that his time is coming.

What a cool looking fellow...I'm sure he, like a lot of us, still feels young inside and wants to be as active as ever - I know it's hard...on both of you! The pic is Major...lost him over 6 years ago...never go a day without thinking of him...but what a genuine BLESSING it was to know him. 38C9FC77-CCBE-4C29-BCEB-D820184A7A2D.jpg

    Yeah.
I prefer to crate train my dogs, but I've found it works for some dogs and not for others. My Shibas would have nothing of it, and they are much better behaved when they have the run of the house. Even shutting them in the laundry room was a bad idea. They have to be able to do the perimeter checks to feel comfortable, and they aren't destructive unless locked up.

Boo, a small rescue of some type, loves his crate and goes in there on his own to nap, doesn't mind it at all.

I had Basenji's in the past, one was fine with it and the other wasn't. I don't get it. Some of it is me having the patience to stick with it, but if they don't seem to need it and aren't taking to it, I tend not to force it.

Beautiful pup! They grow so quickly!!

Man I miss my yellow lab. She had the pink nose also, don't seem to see many of those. Lost her 6-7 years ago :(

My black lab is 4.5 yr old now and she is more hyper and playful than ever. And my chocolate rescue has his moments of being hyper but he'd rather just be sitting at your feet getting loved on.

I'm a 100% believer in crate training. There's a post somewhere here I wrote about the process-it might not be obvious especially at 0230 when you're trying to sleep and your puppy is crying his head off because he has no idea where his people are

Getting up every couple of hours is a PITA as is keeping your pup in the crate all the time. But it is so worth it. Riley is 11+ now and he's had a couple accidents ever. I count that as a huge win. Plus, when he wants some "me time", he'll go sleep in his crate. I leave the gate open so he can do that. Just don't forget that when they're small, you need a small crate-not the one he will grow into.

sometimes they are a little more, but for those looking, get one with a divider. This is 100% true. Cheaper to just buy one crate than to keep buying bigger ones
