Which tender do you have? Mike recommended this one to me, and I really like it: CTEK 56-959 MUS 4.3 Automatic Charger Conditioner Tester



I also used this one on my motorcycle and it seemed to work well, but that was more for just tending rather than conditioning:

Could you just leave the battery with them for a day or two to charge it, and use the red truck's battery in in Igor during that time, rather than buying a new one? Maybe too late I guess.

 

NEED HELP anyone live in Buffalo? Was coming out of crazy woman canyon and hit a bad wash board and bent my drivers steering arm. Where should I go or can anyone help?

 

I could probably return it. But they charged it for an hour and did a test and the test came back bad.

But I need a good battery as Im running radio for a horse race tomorrow. So be using the radio for 18 hours

 

I don't know of anyone on here thats in Buffalo. I know a guy in Sheridan though. Not sure if he is in town though, he travels a lot.

And do you mean you bent your tie rod? Or LCA?

If it's a tie rod, call a friend to come pick you up and go buy a new one. Take some tools back and just replace it. Shouldn't be hard to do.

 

Shit tie rod sorry a bit flustered. We are in Buffalo now its not super bad but I don't want to take the 4x4 road back to our tent with it right now. I have tools but haven't done a tie rod on here yet and no place to work on it.

 

You can do that in the parking lot. The only down side is that your alignment will be fucked. You can eye ball it though and be okay to get around. Don't leave it that way or your tires will get ruined.

If you're in town then Id just go to a local shop to see if they can do it and an alignment for you.

But really all you need are a set of wrenches(big for the tie rod lock nut and tie rod, not super sure what 2nd gen sizes are but smaller than 1st gens I know)
Big hammer and/or pitman puller
pilers.


Plus the ability to take your wheel off which Id assume you can do.

 

What about inner tie rod? That one isn't as easy right?

 

That one isn't bad but requires bigger wrenches usually. But you could do that in the parking lot as well.

 

Talked to a guy at a shop and he looked and thinks it just knocked out my allignemnt didn't seem bent. Gutters crossed that's it

 

You'd have to do some SERIOUS hucking to bend those. It's not impossible on 2nd gens but less likely given the design being in front of the spindle.

So hopefully it's the simple option!

It should be fun. Other than I have to wake up at dawn and work till midnight haha but it's cool to see horses do 100miles in less than 24 hours.

You get a new one? Or know what you're going to get?

 

you..need a radio to transmit the data? Or you using your cell network to do that and just don't care if it doesn't track otherwise.

 

My dad has a nice simple single band radio he uses for APRS that Im going to get to do that. it would work with APRS or just whatever. It's pretty small and affordable. can't remember the model though.

 

I never gave much of a care anymore about seeing eachother. But its still nice way to communicate with people back home.

and when it does work it is really nice for meeting up with folks in the back country.

 

Have you looked at the thin dick 2nd gen ITREs? They bend all the time.

 

In groups, having the reach a ham radio offers is very handy. I know on this last trip, CB communication was, at times, a major limiting factor. And being able to see your buddy's location, when it works, can be helpful too. But the broadcast range is the important item.

 

Do any of your local group of guys you wheel with regularly have or use GMRS?

 

The inners? The outers I could believe. Not sure how close Ive looked at the inners.

Also changed up the tent situation. Bought a super cheap air mattress, it's awesome. Fit the tent perfect. Only $40 and like 6" thick. Plus now I can fit my big sleeping bag and pillows in the tent. And it still looks smaller than when the foam mattress was in there. Hell yeah.

My transmission is slipping worse than ever though. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that.
