I assume they just pulled the end caps off the steel bumper?

You'll more than likely be fine. Auto makers have to abide by Federal statutes. So if it was a big deal they wouldn't do it.

Yeah but you still can't do that everywhere. Maryland, Pennsylvania, and ironically, Utah all require bumpers to at least cover your track width.

Track width is measured from the inside of the wheel, right?

edit: apparently centerline of the tire. I go to PA/MD too much to keep the stubby permanent. ah well.

We have enough older off road vehicles up here for the po po not to mess with you. We have bigger fish to fry. I think it's one of those things that if you are acting like an ass and get pulled over for anything they will look at the obvious infractions. Tint is a big one.

I've put my brain to work and so far the only state I've seen care about width is MD. VA/PA just have height (PA has some requirement re: strength, but the stubby being OE might help w/ that).

May just take them off and hope MD sees my VA tags and let's me pass through lol

Pretty much, like I said, the cops here have a lot more to worry about than the width of a bumper. Hell, up here in the country, I think based on what I've seen, all that matters is that you have at least one like on the rear plat and at least 10% be remaining to bolt to the frame. I've seen some trucks that make you wonder they just don't replace what's left with a fence post because the rusted POS there wouldn't stop you from poking your finger through it let alone another car. They use to really care about the height limit but I see so many lifted trucks now that again, it's just another tick on their list if they pull you over.

Definitely makes sense. The most I'm in MD is on either the beltway or 15, but never too long tbh.

Dude. Maybe modding trucks isnt the hobby for you......Im just looking out. The laws dont matter. You follow all them and someone one will still find a way to get you, even if its just to give you a hard time. Just sayin, if you care that much you are gonna overthink everything.

*Cue me being called an asshole*

No doubt about that, that's why I'm not doing anything radical. And I overthink everything regardless!
