Not sure about fire code or osha requirements but her class size is the same as it has been the past 4 years.

we went up to highland lakes last thursday, thinking that was "mid week enough". nope. place fucking filled up not 30 minutes after we pulled in. fortunately our neighbors were all chill. the bad part was all the idiots parked along the dirt road on non-durable surfaces because they didnt get an actual camp site. garuntee they weren't following LNT.

I’ve pretty much written this year off for being able to enjoy the outdoors without having to deal with mobs of ignorant people everywhere.

Hopefully when this is all over people will go back to not going outside.

@RelentlessFab You got any scrap metal you want to get rid of? I could use some for weld practice?

Not as much small drops right now as I usually do as we did a scrap haul a few weeks ago and I've been using what I do have for guys interviewing to do weld tests, but as soon as I start cutting again on my CNC table next week its going to pile up quick again. You're welcome to some of it.

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
    TL;DR
That's just the thing - we don't know exactly what to do to be keeping people healthy. A lot of the recommendations are based on conjecture, best practices for non-coronavirus illnesses, or limited research data. Since this emerged 7 months ago, the data is still scant. What little data there is often contradictory. I agree scientific knowledge should be the guiding basis. Thing is, the scientific knowledge seems to be lacking or contradictory. I don't think that justifies being reckless (I still wear a seatbelt, though I'm statistically unlikely to be in a car accident).

    Windbag;
    Just some considerations:

Why don't kids get it or get as sick? Is it related to lower ACE2 enzyme in kids? What about blood type? Some data suggests that plays a role in all subjects, but the mechanism isn't known. It's also not actually known if this is airborne or not. It turns out that's actually incredibly hard to prove and takes studies that usually last much longer than 7 months.

Then they reopen, we're told masks will keep us safe, and I haven't seen anyone in a public setting w/out a mask in the past 3 weeks. But the incidence keeps increasing (if the tests are accurate). Are the mask types ineffective? Improperly used? Are they actually not used in sufficient quantity? Is there another ingress or transmission vector? Anything anyone says here is mere anecdote (myself included), and part of the reason for anecdote is that enough just isn't known. Heck, they don't even know how long immunity lasts, and different research shows different results. That bodes ill for a vaccine if the "fading immunity" data is correct. I've heard everything from 6 feet of spacing to 24 feet of spacing

Then what about HCQ vs Remdesivir? Henry Ford Hospital showed legitimate data saying HCQ helps. Other more limited studies have both supported and countered that claim. Then there are the old asthma steroids (1st and 2nd generation) that have beneficial effects on some patients, but don't save others. Why? Those reason are unclear. It could be timing, it could be individual biology, or it could be unknown unknowns.

I get that some people have strong reasons for fretting over this. The elderly (my parents), those who are immunosuppressed, those with diabetes or hypertension, and so on. I'm not discounting those folks or those concerns one bit. On the other hand, you've got a bunch of kids at critical stages of social and emotional development that aren't getting the interaction they need. We are a social species, and without that social interaction, we turn out even more retarded than we already seem to have become. My little one was going to start preschool this year, but that's now a big No Go, and the older one is heading for 7th grade...of some sort.

It's f*cked up all the way around, for everyone. I've got older neighbors that just won't go out, period. One guy survived lung cancer years ago, but only has one lung left. We do a lot of their grocery shopping and errands for them, wipe down anything we touch, wash the reusable bags after each trip for them, and on and on and on. They won't even let our kids play with their dog any more. It's sad, but I don't blame them.

I want this shit to end. Soon. Also, all the assholes playing Occupy Forest need to GTFO. :)

Well said @obscurotron. As with everything, the further scientists dig the more the recommendations change.

What gets me with the WCSD reopening plan is the shift from 6ft to 3ft spacing for elementary schools because "kids don't transmit covid" while other countries have had instances of kids transmitting this. It is a big FU to kids and their parents and the teachers who want to get back in the classroom with proper safety measures in place.

My wife works at a title 1 school and a lot of these kids don't have clean clothes...and the district thinks these kids are going to have a clean mask every day.

I have not heard of any major outbreaks coming from daycares and they have all stayed open through this and the kids aren’t wearing masks all day and they have no social distancing.

My girl’s kid has been in daycare the whole time and they haven’t had any issues so the 3 ft rule for younger kids could be more than enough.

Also if I’m not mistaken 3 ft was a recommendation from American Pediatrics Association and other medical professionals.

Check this out. I don't understand why random doctors on youtube seem to know more than the "experts". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7Sv_pS8MgQ

For those who don't want to watch. This is about some 15 minute type tests where you just spit on some cardboard and it will tell you if you have enough virus to be contagious. I have watched all his videos and he is meticulous about his references. When he does opine he makes sure you know it.

That is it. shit at one time, scientists thought earth was flat... to me, this whole thing is not that different than climate change. we know there is a problem. we don't know everything about it. we can't realistically perform science experiments to prove the cause (because it's real time). and because there are so many variables, it is impossible to model and predict with 100% accuracy. this is not an excuse to do nothing, however. what bothers me is that 90% of people think the answer is either 1) do nothing or 2) do the absolute most extreme things possible which may or may not work, when in reality, there is a middle ground. to me, masks and social distancing are that middle ground, it just needs complete societal participation to be effective.

The place we were going to send the little Mouse has a mask rule. For basically toddlers. Put a mask on ours, and it stays on for an amount of time measured in milliseconds. Plus, I don't see how you keep little kids 3 feet apart with any certainty. Sometimes they want to hug someone. Or steal a toy. Or sit nearly on top of each other. They're odd.
