Good points one part is the company u I was looking at is called solid OffRoad so could be confusing but yes not actually solid. I don’t see a use for that and not worried so much about noise/vibes truck has plenty of that. But at this stage it’s a Frankenstein use rig. It’s HAF, it’s built to mash and right under being a long travel rig. dual shocks, bypasses and hydro bumps are all part of the package. Mainly looking for some better power delivery and “beefing” up weak points. not a ton of miles but it’s almost 10 years old and busing look weathered and cracked all around so been thinking of poly ones for varies places and if I’m doing other work mind as well do engine and trans mounts.

Since were on the topic of bushings etc... Do you guys think a new rack and pinion is best or just get new energy bushings and flush the old rack and pinion. What goes bad on a rack and pinion other than bushings?

If you are pushing large meats around on the rocks then you can easily bust seals and break or skip teeth. A few are swapping to Tundra even going full hydro.

Does your presence here mean your current project truck is getting a supercharger? That would be great! Welcome to the thread of no return. Good looking parts, as always.

@TRON gone in a more street performance direction, so this might be overkill for him....but you never know.

basically if you’re going with the TRD/Magnuson blower, You will need to flash the ECU. You should immediately scrap the bully dog tune. Flash the trd tune, then go HP tuner or ucon (debatable) over the top.

That’ll get the owner set up for some carb exempt fun. You can add as much as you want from there

Very nice. Just picked up the double shear kit, but haven’t gotten nearly this far.

I can't leave anything well enough alone
I don't know of anyone who has broken teeth, or blown seals. I'm sure it has happened to may of you hard core folks. However, I do know 2 people who had the passenger side mount fail on the rack. The strap that goes around the rack tube to hold the bushing broke off the rack completely. They were able to get home with a ratchet strap holding it somewhat, so luckily it wasn't catastrophic like a broken tooth or blown seal would be.

What I did was get a good rack from an auto recycler (had amazingly tight inner tie rods, very good boots, and in great shape), I put poly bushings in anyway, and I reinforced the passenger side mount, by carefully welding additional steel strap to the bushing portion, wrap around the tube, and back to the mount. This way all my welding was done on the existing mount to reinforce it and I didn't weld on the tube, which I believe will warp/distort if not screw up the seals underneath. I think it came out pretty slick, and is easily 2x stronger than OEM. Then I was able to just swap out the racks, which was much faster in the shop compared to the miserable job of getting the old bushings out...

I thought really hard about the JD fab kit, and I do have the LCA pivot kit they made which I like. But I don't like that you have to cut the frame for that slide rack and I don't like that there isn't a good boot solution for it. Perhaps if it was available prior to my front end work, I'd have gotten it. I do like that it replaces tie rods and reduces flex. Don't like that the tie rods are shorter and even more angled compared to stock. I think when turned full lock, and especially when full droop/stuff, I am going to be cognizant of the potential failure modes and not really jam it up. I'm not out to prove anything, and sometimes it is better to get the winch out, or use the obstacle bypass :)

I also reinforced the eyelets and put zerk fittings in the whiteline lower control arm bushings, which I really like being able to squirt some superlube into. Haven't seen anyone do that yet.

For what I do with the truck, I feel it is good to go.

Yup. My truck has never really been off roading. But in Colorado 4x4 is great to have for all the snowy months. I think my RPS is probably good. Just needs new bushings, boots, and a good flush. Last thing I want to do is swap my good one for a refurbished Toyota oem that’s not so good.

Definitely retrofit in some energy poly bushings for the rack. The OE rack bushings have natural voids in them that allow at least 1/4" of lateral play as you turn the wheels. Not cool in my book.

We (and by we, definitely I) want more info!!

We'll get you all educated soon to be if not already boosted brother. :)

We got you covered bro. Hopefully you can hook up some of us looking for fab work up with a "boosted brother" discount. ;)

I did this exact thing today. I had a Bully Dog and wanted to get it out assp. With the help of @zippsub9 and @JustDSM my truck now has an HPtune. I dont know much, but that first test drive was a night and day difference!
