That was my initial impression and I am sticking with it. Unless the truck was underwater, a squirrel took residence, North Korea released a electronic pulse device in the OP’s neighborhood or the belt was never reinstalled, I stand by my diagnosis. I hope this gets straightened out soon

If there is an automotive electrical shop in your area, take the alternator to them to be tested. If it's a problem, they should be able to fix it for way cheaper than a reman from a big box parts house.

Pretty sure there is no external voltage regulator, meaning its either built into the alternator or the ECU. I don't know which.

As others have suggested, there could be a wiring issue going on as well, but I'd want the alternator tested at a quality shop before rooting around too much.

Maybe @Jimmyh or @Bishop84 can give some guidance here.

Great point, I’ll start looking around for some shops.

Again, if the alternator is GOOD.
You need to find out why it isn’t being turned on.
If the regulator is being told to turn on, the alternator isn’t going to charge.

Again, IF the alternator is GOOD.
You have a wiring issue. I’d go straight to the IG wire.
That’s what “turns on” the alternator.

Take a look at post # 17 again.
The info you need is there.

I'd start by returning the alternator and buying a different brand. Just for piece of mind.

But before I call any alternator I check the power circuits on the main lead and 2 of the 3 wires on the secondary lead.

Lastly, if all else fails, its time to do voltage drop tests. Underload a weak circuit will fail, so a resistance check is invalid, and a proper voltage drop is required.

You showed us a nice picture of the 3-pin connector, now put a voltmeter on it and check that those wires are getting the proper voltage.

"Triple Tested" sticker on the alternator makes me think why do they need to test it 3 times? Maybe the customer does the 3rd test!

Last thread like this last month guy forgot to put the wire back that went to the fuse. he thought it was for the floodlights.

Hope it is an easy fix for OP.

Ask to "borrow" a second alternator.

Sorry, the regulator on that model is internal to the alternator. I would have thought back inn 2000 it would be external.

That’s a reassuring sticker on that thing. The guys at AutoZone are working at a store that sells more air fresheners and steering wheel covers than quality parts. Go buy a Napa alternator, keep it squeeky clean, including the box, install it and see if your problem goes away. If not, put it back in the box, unmolested and return it. I have a suspicion you won’t need to.

This is why I always recommend a new alternator over a crappy rebuild.

Odds are the first the alternator is defective. Second a wiring issue.

even the alternators that the Toyota dealers are selling are REMANs at $276, a new one must be very expensive
