extremely common problem, very rare, head replacement...

 

Snap on (among others) makes a repair tool for when the plugs seize & break off in the head of those pos ford Triton motors. When a plug blows out a helicoil kit should fix it.

ive found the helicoil kits are 50/50 in fixing it, kinda depends on how much damage was done when the plug blew out.

I agree, hopefully it's a easy fix for him. I had a old shovelhead Harley that had a stripped sparkplug hole. I JB welded a helicoil in and never had a issue. When I had the motor rebuilt I upgraded to S&S performance heads but my buddy is still running my old heads and the helicoil is still holding up.

I don’t have that much faith in these Ford heads this is the 2nd time in about 65-70 thousand miles it has happened .Im hoping to get 2 mores years out of them then I’m hopefully selling my business .And buying a mountain somewhere.

 

the 5.4 heads have a known defect about blowing out sparkplugs, they made a design change to the heads to fix it, just sounds like you got unlucky and ended up with an early 5.4.

ive heard lots of good things about them working, just personal experience is mixed. they always worked well in steel/cast parts, just aluminum was 50/50, ive had some stick and some that came out.
