Guys with BFG KO2s. Check your tires.

Those surface cracks are ok. Rubber will do that will age. My guess they are at least 3 years old. Yeah just check the date just for shits.

 

A little over 5 years I guess.

 

Yay..So now we know they were new tires. I think your minimal cracking and/or splitting is normal but that's your decision. Thanks for the info everyone can use.

I’m glad to see BFG stand behind their product for you. I’ve got a friend fighting to get replacement on a Cooper after one blew out on the free way.

What size tire and rim width?
Pressure?

 

I was a little surprised that they did it no questions asked. I was expecting a little fight as usual

 

It looks minimal in pics and there are some pretty long splits, like 2-3 inches. Ill try to take better pics later. None of my tires did that, so its kind of hard to accept for me that thats normal. Anyways i wanted c load anyways haha. I made a mistake of getting e load when i got the truck.

 

On mine: 265/65/18 on a 9” wide rim. Usually run 35-40psi.

 

Rim width range for those tires is 7.5"-9.5"; 8" is nominal. My personal rule is to stay within 1/2" of nominal.
Mounting on a rim 1" wider than nominal rim will increase section width by 1/2". It also increases volume; this will affect pressure requirements. 35 psi is correct for a 8" wide rim; on a 9" I'd run 33 psi.
40 psi is too much, IMO.
I think the combo you have is just hammering the bead.

 

Based on this photo can anyone identify when these tires were manufactured? I know they’re really old and have been considering replacing them but they’ve got a lot of tread left and no cracking what so ever.

 

1969?? Haha i doubt it though. Check the DOT on the other side of the tire.

 

If BFG is paying 66% of new tires because of these little tiny cracks then I’d never buy a different tire again. BFG for life

Thanks. If you dont mind driving with splits on your sidewalls, thats fantastic. Also, if you guys could read properly, you will see that i wrote that there are worse splits than the ones on the pics.

So if nothing abnormal, why they are getting pro rated?

Not to sound like I'm harping; the number one cause of tire failure is incorrect inflation, not manufacturing defect. Since you've admitted as much and your failure seems to be a one-off, well...

 

Because it's company policy that they bend over backwards to make even unreasonable customers happy. I've had KO2's on my tacoma from day one and put 70k miles on the first set before purchasing a new set. There's nothing wrong with those tires, and the fact that you expected to fight them over it is a pretty good indication that you're just one of the 'Karens' they deal with. I feel like it should be obvious that they are taking the good with the bad to keep their reputation for those of us that aren't ridiculous.

Never had an issue with one since before they were KOs. BFG and their stablemates Michelin are the superior stuff.

 

I took a picture of another tire and the 6 is actually an 8. The vehicle is a 1993 so I don’t know if it’s feasible the tires from 1989 got put on it. I don’t see any date coding on the inside/ white letter side of the tire.
