Hello folks, I'm sure you've probably heard of GM and Honda sending temporary workers on assembly lines due to staffing shortage in US production plants

    links below

    https://www.autoblog.com/2020/07/30/honda-office-workers-on-assembly-line-marysville-ohio-plant/

It kinda makes me wonder, if Toyota would do such thing.

My original plan was to order a 2021 Model Year TRD Pro manual in Lunar Rock. All the 2020s I called in stock are either at MSRP or around $5k marked up. I can order a 2021 and have the dealer agreed to sell me at MSRP, so I figured there's no point getting the 2020 if I don't mind waiting.

Now I worry if 2021 models will have quality issues due to staffing shortage in manufacturing plants, or TRD Pro will be spared of this? If so, I can probably wait for 2022, I'm really not in a hurry to buy, I just want to make sure I can buy a manual TRD Pro Tacoma before the 4th gen debut (because you all said Toyota's most likely not going to have manual tacoma for the 4th gen).

I’d just pull the trigger. Too many times I’ve waited on doing things cause of the variables and missed out.

if they were to half ass anything, then they would be opened to lawsuits and what not. i don't see toyota doing that.

Is Toyota even building 2021's anytime soon? 2020's are still shipping right now. Toyota also just released all the changes and info on the 2021's Trucks/SUV's but left out the Tacoma for some reason.

Hilarious to me that people here think of Toyota as some greater , more benevolent entity compared to a Honda or ... well, okay, they definitely are compared to GM.

thanks all for the encouragement, I pulled the trigger, put in the order with the local dealer
they don't have the exact configuration pricing, but apparently dealers can now order 2021 and select Lunar Rock tacoma option
so I just put down $500 and they told me expect delivery around November

I didn't see, but I think they told me pretty much the same: super white, black, metallic gray. I did see another customer's order 2021 with super white

One thing I learned with Tacomas is that some are very hard to get and you have to jump when you get the chance. I waited over 3 years to find the one I wanted that wasn't white or red but it's a 3rd car so I had the luxury of waiting. Work prevented me from traveling far to get one and I won't buy any car without checking it over first. Congratulations, BTW.

Truck at least will be sanitary. I found half a sandwich inside my dash when I took it apart to add more switches.

Good call - if you really wanted the Pro in Lunar Rock grabbing an allocation now is smart. Most dealerships will only get one allocation in that color - the larger ones may get more. I got the only one allocated to my dealership for a 2020 AG Pro. Now the waiting begins!!

Don’t. Wait for the 4th gen to come out. It’s been four years so a new one is going to come out in 2025.

Imo, Toyota and Japanese culture in general is fairly conservative. Look at how long it takes for the Tacoma to see any technology. I think you’d be okay.

Yikes, sorry that happened to yours. I'm going to have my neighbors dog sniff my tacoma when I take delivery for rotten food just in case
