What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

When I did my v6 I just pressed it in with it on the vehicle. Went in real easy.

 

Rolled over to 280k miles. I just keep fixing things as they need to be fixed. Working out good so far.

 

Yea I've done it both ways.
Taking it off the engine just gives you more room to work

 

Well. Both axles are pressed I’ll get the backing plates back on and get them installed to the housing.. and on to the frame... and maybe roll the SOB out of the garage for the first time in 4 years

 

Prepping for a trip to Colorado in a couple weeks.

Airing out the tent and washing sleeping bags and sheets. Sounds like fun right?



Picked up some stuff for some pre-trip maintenance... too fucking hot to do any of it right now. I'll do the LBJs on Tuesday because the OTREs are supposed to arrive then.



Finished up plotting our routes on GAIA... and Google for redundancy. I think this evening I'll reserve Hotel rooms for us. We'll be camping 5 of the 8 nights we'll be gone.

 

Sonoran Steel bushing kit for the LCAs is here. Getting ready to swap out the whilelines for these when we install the TC Cam Tab gusset kit.

 

Why are you swapping out the Whitelines for these new bushings?? I just installed the whitelines, seem alright so far.

 

I am sure you'll be fine with your choice. I have been happy with the whiltelines I put in 3 years ago. But since I have to remove the LCAs and alignment cam adjusters any way to do the cam tab gusset kit, it was my intention to replace the LCA bushings while I was in there. Originally, I was going to put in a new set of whitelines, but when I saw these, they seemed worth trying.

 

Fair enough. Just wondering if they had failed or something.

 

It is possible there's been some degradation. They have been set for max caster the whole time.

Well. Finally have an axle under the truck, disc brake brackets are on ( @mechanicjon ill get bolt measurements when I figure out what I’m going to run, I don’t like how much thread pokes out from the ones they send)

Crazy as it sounds a toilet floor flange makes a perfect tool to drive rear main seal in flush.

Oh thank god I’m not the only one who used one of those when I did my buddies seal.. since I forgot my proper tool lol

Yup, brought my rear main seal from the truck to the plumbing aisle at Home Depot. Turns out a toilet flange fits perfectly and works as a seal driver.

 

I have a set of allpros waiting to be put on.
