I'm down for helping on the other side of the welder.

My truck is at Auburn OffRoad getting new spindle bearings, at least that is what I think is toasted.
They already said that the Camburg uni-balls are trashed.

 

I used half a gallon. That’s two coats sprayed in the bed, fender flares, rear bumper plastic and front bumper valance and trim.

 

I was concerned since the backing plates gets pressed in between but I guess not for the disc setup?

You coming over the pass from I-70? Some spectacular views up there, Vail, Aspen, Keystone, Divide, Pikes Peak=14,000 feet.

All the guys in the SAS thread have me talked into the Atlas.

 

Anyone ever heard of a flipping the receiver? Does it work with any hitch or nah? I’ll crawl under my truck when I get back to pavement, just curious right now

When you mentioned it the other day I went and looked at mine. I think its specific to the factory ones on first gens maybe. The bolt pattern on either end of the receiver is a nice symmetric triangle so its flip able. Most receivers that I've seen are welded there instead.

 

@Fernando , I think this is what you’ll hear from a lot of the dudes I tagged. The Atlas is super spendy and isn’t exactly bolt-on, but it does everything that duals will do and then some without a lot of the hassle.

I can’t speak from experience, but that’s what I’ve picked up on in the SAS BS and Crawl Box BS threads.

Atlas because Toyota crawl box costs have gotten so expensive an atlas isnt that much more. Or try to find a used one.

 

What's considered 'light towing' when breaking in new gears? I have a 6x10 wood bottom utility trailer and a 7x16 tandem axle trailer I could use to break in the gears for towing... Don't know which to use, I just don't want to over load the gears.

It’s got a seperate plate so you can slide it over. It’s designed so you can cut the old backing plates and install these without pressing.

 

I’m picking up my crawl box from Trail Gear this week. So far I’m only about 2k into it, that’s the crawl box, crossmember, and triple sticks from RAD Design. I capitalized on their 4th of July sale, subscriber discount, and transfer case $400 core trade in deal. I will still have to figure out what I want to do with driveshafts, but regardless I should be able to get out well below 3k.

The 4th of July sale is obviously long gone, but you can still get the 10% subscriber discount and the $400 dollar core credit if you provide your own core (I bought one off eBay for 180, so more like a 220 credit for me).

I know TG isn’t as highly regarded as the Atlas, or the Taco Box, but it’s a lot more affordable than the Atlas, and can be had much faster than the Taco Box. Mine was ready in about 2 weeks (again, I did provide the core - wait times depend on cores). I’ll be sure to post up a lot more about it when I pick it up and install it.

 

I don’t have any regrets on my TG Toyota duals with a 3RZ/5 speed on 37’s. Zero leaks and can be done for around $2k if you snag a top shift box from a junkyard. 6 years on mine with zero problems. If you’re going to run 40”+ tires and have a heavy foot, I’d probably just bite the bullet on an Atlas. It hurts at $4k but the Toyota stuff doesn’t hold up to HP and 42’s.
