    DENAIR, Calif. — KSBW.com
A 13-year-old Stanislaus County boy at the center of a flag controversy got a big show of support Monday as many people rallied to his side.
Cody Alicea was earlier told by Denair Middle School officials that he could not ride to school with a U.S. flag on his bike. The story has gained national attention, from Rush Limbaugh to the Drudge Report.
The school changed its mind, and now Alicea can display the stars and stripes.
When he rode from his home to school on Monday, he was followed by a parade of people on motorcycles. A military jet flyover was also expected.
"I'd just like to say thanks for the support," Alicea said before his ride.
Officials at the school told Alicea not to display the flag, citing safety concerns. Some students had complained about the display.

Denair Unified School District Superintendent Edward Parraz said the campus recently experienced some racial tension. He said some students got out of hand on Cinco de Mayo. He said some students displayed the Mexican flag, while others displayed American flags.
Parraz said he got calls from halfway around the world about the flag controversy. Some soldiers in Afghanistan called to complain.
Alicea said he was surprised at the attention.
"This is big," Alicea said. "I didn't think it'd get this big."

Thought this was pretty cool that all these people stood behind this kid.

Everyone in the world gets to show patriotism for their country-except us. WE are expected to show respect for all of their cultures and be "tolerant" as they honor their flags-but what about OUR culture? I am not getting why we are expected to put our flag and our way of life aside so that they feel more comfortable to flaunt THEIR pride here? Bullsh*t. And you know I am right.

I think the biggest issue around subjects like this is the fact that it is very rude to be in a particular country, Lets say AMERICA, and to be saying how you are soo proud to be from country X, and you fly country X's flag around all the time, and talk about how country X is so great. Well if country X is so great, GO HOME! People need to start being called out on it. It's fine if you are from country X and you are proud, just shut up about in public it while in a different country. How do they not realize that doing that kind of shit is extremely rude and pretentious? It doesn't matter whether or not people like country X, they will hate anyone who acts like that.

*national sporting events are obviously completely different situations.

Well, it's good to see that he got a lot of support from those guys today and many others....including those who called in or e-mailed in this past weekend.

I certainly don't want to turn this thread into a "sh*t fest" with my comments, and respect the OP's request for that.
But it really scares me to hear about people being "offended" by our flag.....really scares me. It scares me even more when people would rather fly the flag of the country that their past family came from, or they came from. Nothing wrong with putting it up, but maybe put it inside instead of outside?
It really offends me when I see people from around my neighborhood, fly the flag of the country of Mexico, or Canada on their flag pole, Vs. the good ole' red, white, and blue.
But I don't see a problem with seeing the other countries flag up.....as long as the USA flag is on top. I have a Danish flag inside, but American outside.
