Grille 8n two pieces?

Quick question, ordered a cheap replacement grille from rock auto and it came in two pieces. The outer ring is separate is this normal? Do I need to melt the tabs over or glue it together??

 

On OEM, the outer shell is removable. There are tabs and torx screws. Would you mind posting a picture of the separate pieces?

 

The OEM ‘05-‘11 grilles have tabs that are melted over. The OEM ‘12-‘15 grilles Come apart. The OP has a ‘08, so, hard telling what the aftermarket grill is all about. “Some assembly required”.

 

Shit I only now noticed his year. I still would have thought the same thing though honestly lol.

 

I will get a pic later today. The factory grill the small tabs all tow around are melted over, this new one the tabs are straight so it comes apart. Not sure if it’s on me to melt them over or if I got a dud.

 

I would love to find a color matched grille but have no luck.

The aftermarket replacement grills for the 05-11 grills come in two pieces from the Tong-Yang group which manufactures them using the same ABS injection mold specs as an OEM grill. A YCC aftermarket grill will come with the inner & outer surrounds plastic welded together whereas the Tong-Yang one comes unassembled.
All 01-04 grills regardless of aftermarket manufacturer come assembled.
12-15 grills are a MUCH better design since the inner & outer snap together and are held with torx screws.

The one you purchased is what I primarily use for my custom grills since it's easy to send the outer surround to get color matched while i'm fabricating the inner surround.

I made a custom tool to easily fasten the inner & outer together in a matter of minutes, but I've also built hundreds of these for folks on here.

If you've got a soldering iron with a flat tip that will work just fine to weld the two pieces together. Just use masking tape to hold each part together firmly and you'll be fine.
