2019 OR Firewall pass through

Going to install Ham radio in my 2019 OR and need to get antenna & power lines run through the firewall. There seems to be a entry gramett on the passenger side the could work. Before I go poking through this, does anyone know where it comes out in the cab?

 

Under the dash on the passenger side. Pull the carpet up and locate it.

 

I went through a similar location on the driver's side. I poked a small hole with a utility knife and pushed the wires through. Once I got a few inches through, it was easy to locate under the dash. It came through above the carpet.

Edit: this is on a 4runner. I'm not sure where the wiring harness passes through on a Taco, but I imagine it's similar.

 

okay, thanks for the help. I thought it might be behind the glove box which would be more of a PITA. I'll look around under the carpet. I want to keep the power cable a little bit separated from the antenna to avoid interference and since there's two nipples this might work out.

 

There’s another one on the driver side that’s easier to access. Don’t try to use the little pokey grommet, it’s a pain. Just cut a small hole in the rubber and push the cables through. On the driver side, it comes out just below the steering column near the fuse box, easy to work with.

 

Use the 3/4” grommet up and to the right. Way easier. There is carpet behind it, just poke a hole and run your wires in via coat hanger or something. The 3/4” grommet can always be replaced should you need to. That other larger main harness grommet for all intents and purposes cannot.

there is a similar 3/4” grommet on driver side near the brake booster region. It’s actually easier since there isn’t a bunch of ECU equipment behind it. You can stick your head in the driver foot well and actually see your wires coming through.

 

I used the lower "nipple" because it seemed it was going to be easier to access the wires inside the cab. You'll need to remove the passenger side kick panel to get to them . . .

 

I've got too much stuff on the drivers side which I'd need to remove to work with that entry point plus everything will be terminating on the passenger side so it just make sense to me to go through there.

 

i missed the whole acronyms or something, what does OR stand for? i been living inside this whole year.

There are service spots in the harness to run wires though, they're the nipples people are talking about. They are very much there on purpose.

It's in your best interest to get some black butyl and seal up where you poked holes. Pull wire back a little, goober on the butyl, very slowly pull the wire through a bit extra, then push to settle it where it should really be. That's the easiest, fastest, most reliable way to seal it up. The butyl remains sticky and pliable for a very, very long time. Ever pull a door foil / moisture barrier on a 25 year old car and get that black goop everywhere? Butyl. It's magic. It can also be another version of car herpes and track everywhere, so be careful. Strong isopropyl alcohol will clean it up. Strong, like 92%.

 

Thanks, That's exactly where it comes out. Under the kick panel which is perfect since I will then continue to route the cable under the front passenger seat where the radio body will sit. I ran a coat hanger through to see how it will work and although it's pretty tight I think I can get the RG58 coax through there but not with a connector on the end. I'll have to run it through as a bare cable and then install the

PL259 connector once it's through. Kind of a PITA soldering on the truck floor but surely doable. I'll run the power cable through the other nipple and I guess I'll need to cut the inline fuses off and then re splice them back on.
