Lots of people run something like the total chaos hoop without a cross member. The cross member just helps with flex. If you are concerned you could always use 1/4” wall tube for extra rigidity. They’re small hoops so the extra weight/ cost will be minimal for the material.

When I was researching similar setups for my 2nd gen it looked like the rear hangers are more likely to bend than the shock towers and those needed more reinforcement on the Defined / TC kit. Bobby at Solo told me the shock hoops won't see a lot of bending to the left or right. TC runs quite a few factory trucks this way.

yea I basically have the same set up as with the hoops like @Anthony250 mentioned

Tim at Dmz built the hoops and all for me a couple years back. I didn’t want anything crazy or cut the bed either

You mean redo the shock mount with 14’s? Droop wise you’ll be limited by the springs

don’t you have a 10” shock now? You’d have to redo upper/lower shock mounts to get a bigger shock in there.

I think most people don’t like it because it doesn’t cycle a lot of travel. Even with a 10” shock, the TC hoop put the shock well below the frame like in your photo, which isn’t great for SUA because you want to be able to able to use all that bump travel gained by relocating the spring. But as you of all people know, You can still do a lot of tuning with a 10” shock if it’s valved properly. It would just be harder to tune a bypass because of tube positioning.

Most guys look at it by cost evaluation. If you’re going to spend the money to go SUA you clearly want to optimize travel, specifically bump travel. With the amount of cost it takes to do the TC kit most guys would rather just spend a little more and get the DMZ or something else that nets more travel.

also comes down to application. You can’t equally compare an SUA kit to a SOA setup because they do different things. SUAs aren’t known to handle lots of weight well, which is something to analyze when building you’re truck.

not necessarily. You’re just limiting the travel numbers with a 10” shock. You’d have to set the upper/lower mounts in the proper position to optimize the zones within that 10” stroke but if done properly you could tune it.

Almost done with my not-quite-as long travel rear end rebuild. Swapped to 12" shackles, and stuffed some 11.5" 2.5 Fox IBP off a Raptor under the bed. It'll do for now, I can do until I figure out a cantilever setup. I'll be happy having a normal bed again though.

Any tips on torquing the bolt being the coilover? I've re-torqued everything except that one

You mean the upper control arm through bolt or one of the three top hat bolts?
