Enough to make it a lot of fun!

Yes it’s an open diff housing. I should mention it’s a 8.4 diff. I don’t know for sure if the 8” and 8.4” have the same bolt pattern. I’m keeping the diff for myself as a spare. So it will just be the axle shafts and housing. You can have it if you want it. I just need it out of my way.

After cycling and more trimming I finished up the axle and started on the upper section of the new bed cage. I’ll be designing the shock mounts next. I used some 1/2” tube, heated it up and made a 90*. I welded it to the top of the axle where the breather was and have it coming out the front of the upper truss. I’ll tap it for a common air barb fitting instead of the BSPT that Toyota uses. I’m not 100 percent happy with the upper tubes. Wish I would of got the bent closer to the cab but it will work. That’s what happens when you eyeballing the bends and pulling on the tube bender.

Got some more work done. Made upper shock mounts and tac them on to cycle. Everything seems to clear but I do have to run 1.25 spacers in the rear so the tire clears the bypass on full articulation/ flex out. So with the 1.25 spacers the tires line up pretty close front to back. She’s going to be wide.

I feel like those mounts might need a bit more support ;) Lookin good.

Im going to add a tube on the back of that mount going to that cross tube in the middle. I need to design an upper section that goes on the top of that mount up to the top tube by the bend. Once I tie that all in, it will be strong. My original wheel base was 121.? but I extended it 1.25” back. So just around 123” I don’t know what the width is yet. I’ll measure later.

Oh c’mon man, my leaf springs tuck up higher than that on articulation. Either way, good work.

Sure I do lol. Tire rubs my bed cage legs under articulation which limits mine. But just giving you a hard time. Keep up the good work. It’ll be an awesome truck when complete

well shit :p it’s all good. Your angel of the bypass leaning forward probably helps a lot. Mine are more vertical. I should of made my lower link a little longer from the bypass back to the axle then it would of gave me more room. But I’m using most of the travel out of these shocks anyways. I can go up another 1/2 to 3/4 but on full drop I’m maxed out on the bypass. I’ll adjust everything closer to shaft travel. This was just to make sure everything wasn’t going to hit so I can start the new cage.

More progress. The bottom tube from the frame up is .250 wall. So i'm pretty confident it won't need any extra tubes to support it. I will add tube gusset on the back side of the tube to the middle of the cage so I don't have any dead end tubes.

More stuff done. Got the bumps set. I still need to gusset them. I won’t be able to finish the truck at Corey’s shop. His ex is taking it over so I’ll be focusing on getting the truck driving so I can get it home to finish it. I’m on a time crunch now to get it running.

Just double pass on the bubble gum and you’ll be fine. Strength/ appropriate heat > pretty, at least that was my motto back in the day. Now it’s just my backup plan if the circumstances don’t work out lol. That said, my backup plan comes into play often enough for some of the shit side work I’ve been doing. Fixing people’s shit for $0.50 on the $1 they’re getting what they pay for lol. Strong but not pretty.
