Lots of guys, me included, have wheeled the shit out of their TG dual case set-up with no issues. Glad to see people finally seeing the light.

I've got 2 years, 20000 miles and no issues with my TG case. I did go with a Marlin Total Spline input instead of the stock input.

No idea. Drives good though. Im guessing something is pretty bent somewhere.

No totally sure yet. Was the plan but fiberglass didn't show up in time and then I just got tired of waiting. Just wanted to go camping and the mid travel was the best option for that.

Solo replaced my LCAs with brand new ones too so that was super cool.

yeah those were super fucked. You were flirting with danger there.

You'll be fine. I have 33s and 4.10s and cruise at 80 all the time here with an auto.

So you just replaced the TG internals with the MC 4.7 total spline kit?

It's not TG internals. It's the stock toyota input shaft from the crawlbox. That got swapped out to the Marlin Total Spline 2.28. I've got an auto and spending the extra $500 for the 4.7 gear set wasn't worth it. In an auto the torque converter effectively doubles the final crawl ratio. If your a manual go 4.7. If your an auto keeping stock 2.28 is plenty low enough.

Oh so you have a gear driven case behind the crawlbox? Am I understanding it right? Sorry if i'm a bit slow on this, still kinda figuring it out for myself

i also realized about 20 minutes after that post that my spedo is off...

so i went to the tire size calculator and found out that 75 equals out to 80 anyways so i should be fine. it also may feel different when everyone else is going that speed, instead of the left lane going 85 and the middle going 75:annoyed:. I drove up from Portland yesterday (3 hours up I-5) and i had to change lanes constantly.

on another, related but different, note does anyone know what the part number or tooth count is for a spedo gear that will bring the spedo back to stock-ish with 4:10s and 33s?

Head over to the CrawlBox BS thread and start reading.

I'm still IFS so it's a stock chain drive case(2.57) with a crawlbox(2.28) in front of it. TG makes 2 adapters to make this work. The trans to CB adapter then the CB to stock case adapter.

still sounds better than my old truck. it was a 2.7L with 3.51 gears and it came stock with 28s. after i put 31s on the already gutless truck it was god awful. pretty much the reason that i ended up selling it and buying my current truck. as of now i'm still pretty happy with 4.10s so i'll focus my efforts on other stuff for the time being. theres always ways to spend money.

Are you considering the atlas at all?

I keep going back and forth about it in my head. As much as I'd like to drop the money and build one out, I just think it might be a bit overkill for me currently. Given the success stories i've heard about people running the TG duals stuff, I think I might try my luck with those and start there.
But then all the damn guys in the crawlbox BS thread saying that they wish they would have gone atlas from the start is making me think otherwise....

I know lol I had similar thoughts. But it’s basically double the price, but you are pretty much set after and shouldn’t have any problems.

I strongly considered one. In the end I decided not to.

    It was twice as expensive.
It is a shit ton more work to make fit.
While it's no doubt a lot stronger I think a dual case set-up is plenty strong for a motor producing 190HP and 220 ft/lbs of torque.

Yea the whole thing with it being a sealed unit that you more or less connect up and works, is appealing. (minus hacking up your whole floor to fit the sumbitch in).

You're 3rd reasoning is another reason I don't think it's the best idea.
I have a 4cyl 3rz, and bolting up that beast of a T-case to it just seems like a waste for what that t-case is really capable of.

Sure thing. I guess the one other thing I should note if I were to do this again - I'd probably put in a Dakota Digital rather than change the gear. That way, different tire sizes in the future, different gears - none of that would matter, b/c the speedo could be adjusted digitally.

Also - part numbers for all the gears are here, if you do want to go that route: Speedometers, Odometers, and Gas Mileage – All Lies!

thanks for that as well, i wasn't having any luck with finding the gear in my quick google search. i am curious about the prospect of a digital system though. i am curious as to how it would work (connection wise)? would one install it by cutting the wires and splicing it in? to my eyes the gear seems like the simpler option, especially since i don't plan on changing from 33s for a while (planning on sticking with 285s until these wear out, then possibly switching to a set of 255s).
