Mine came new with Pro wheels, Pro stainless exhaust, and a Pro shift knob. Not saying it’s a pro but it also came lifted with (IMO) better or equal shocks, way better tires and real rock sliders instead of nerf bars. Boils down to what people want I guess, I could have spent less and got a Pro but it would not have been as capable.

Well I can’t compare myself and I’m sure the fox’ are nice too but I know the Toytec has performed well thus far so pretty happy. I have done a few “difficult” rated trails here in Colorado and it’s done really good. I would not rule out Fox, Kings, or Toytec again when needed. I don’t know how or even if I can upload the video but here is a snapshot. Slaughterhuse Gulch CO.jpg

Yeah. The new cool PRO thing people are doing is getting Faux PRO vin numbers and sticking it over your not so PRO vin number inside your windshield.

In the end, that is the only thing that dictates if its a pro.

Buy a pro and put new rims, suspension...on it, and its still a pro.

I'd say that if you replaced EVERYTHING from a Pro, including the seats and the OEM emblems, then I might let you call it a Pro Replica... :notsure:

On a side note, I'm considering blacking-out a vintage/heritage Land Cruiser emblem, and placing it on the door where the Pro/Bro emblem goes...

    this and that...
im one of those that are gonna spring for the 2020 leds. and when i do? im getting the trd pro variant. no doubt about it. the pro and the regular leds are around the same price so why not. i dont care one way or another if someone is affected lol. does it pass my truck off as a pro? no. will i claim my truck a pro? negative. shoot, i actually pride myself on having a sport. my build is a sport build. thats never gonna change, but if these expensive lights are the same price then hell yeah ill get the pro. if in the end i dont like the moniker there i could always vinyl it, i doubt it but its a non issue.

    repping that sport life lol

Hey wait a minute! It doesn't matter what my VIN says, my Taco is Non-binary. You have no right to tell me its not a TRD Pro if thats how it feels or chooses to express itself. I feel oppressed!

Funny how that works, Toyota takes an OR model and turns it into a PRO at the factory and its fine. Someone does the same thing in their driveway with all the correct parts and they might be ridiculed.

Personally, I don't think many would be too concerned on resale difference if one is factory optioned and one created and is honestly advertised as a "tribute" or "clone" PRO edition. The same parts work as well on both trucks and factory PROs aren't commanding much more resale over lesser trims, particularly if they're modified and PRO specific parts removed.

I see a lot of muscle cars that are upgraded to SS, RT or RS (etc. etc.) and they call them clones. Some have better options than the original SS, RT, RS models but a true numbers matching SS, RT, or RS will always command a higher price in general. I have some TRD Pro parts on my TRD OR because I like those parts but I wouldn't consider it a Pro even if I completely decked it out as such. I figured I could save a few bucks and upgrade and mod as I wanted getting an OR.

If it identifies as a Pro, then in this new crazy world we live in, it is a Pro.

5 / 10 yrs ago it will be Pro Bro, Faux Pro, or poser....

That's the kicker, you would likely need to keep the higher trim as stock as possible which begs the question, which would have a better resale, the OR with upgraded OEM parts or a Pro missing some of its Pro exclusive parts?

Yeah that is a conundrum. I guess to a collector stock as possible or rebuilt to stock specs always seems to have a better resale down the road. I don't know if a Tacoma will hit that classic car collectible status or not. Most sales posts I see people tend to write off most mods or revert their trucks to stock as possible and sell the mods on the side to recoup any loss. A nicely built up TAV Tacoma might command a better price because of the reputation of the upgrade but it could be more difficult to sell due to perception of the buyer and added cost. I would say having a true Pro VIN would allow a seller to mark up their asking price but ultimately it all depends on the buyer. Is the Pro VIN worth the added cost? It also wouldn't be ethical to sell a TRD OR with all the Pro mods as an actual TRD Pro but it could be a nice selling point to the right buyer to say it comes with all the Pro options especially for long bed trucks.

You can do whatever you want to your truck and call it whatever your little heart desires.. The only thing I see is the resale wont reflect whatever you call it or do to it (if you ever decide to sell your truck) because the VIN reflects what it was from the factory.
There's a local here that has the base-est base model Taco (5 lug, no scoop, no color match, blah blah). He put Bilsteins on it, slapped Off Road stickers on it, and tells people he has a TRD Off Road. I mean, whatever tickles your pickle, man.

I'm not going to put Fox Shocks on my TRD Off Road Tundra and stamp a "TRD Pro" emblem into the ass-end though. It came from the factory as an Off Road, that's what it'll remain regardless of what I do to it. That's just me though. A lot of that is also not giving a crap about what logos are on my truck or what people think of it.. :cookiemonster:

Bed length and color choice are the only reasons I won't consider buying a Pro although I would buy a white or QS DCLB or AC cab configuration in that trim if Toyota built them.
