    @cruiserguy

    What shocks did you run on the old 80. I was thinking... nah I'll get kings for it, but then I was like.... well I really don't have any desire to wheel it, it's clean and comfy and at least somewhat collectible. But the rusty stock shocks are cramping my style, and comfort.

    I always ran OME, or the OEM made by Tokico I think, oem ones are like 30 bucks and they really do ride nice. They truly are a quality shock even though they don't have a cool name sticker on em. On stock 80s they ride niiiiiiice.
    I never got into high end shocks. I guess because the Cruisers didn't use coil overs, so the masses think there is less value to the high end shocks with the 80 series and 100 series Cruisers suspensions.
    I still love that the 100 runs a torsion bar front suspension :rofl:Dead nuts reliable but so old and basic.... but that's right up the Land Cruisers alley man. :D

    So get this... Tokico, a quality shock manufacturer... and the sole OEM for Toyota, Honda, and Nissan.... has gone bankrupt and is no longer producing shock absorbers anymore. Their corpse was purchased by Tenneco (Monroe/Gabriel/Rancho).... arguably some of the worst shocks made. Unfortunately, 80 series shocks as well as LX450 shocks (different part nums, but same idea) are no longer complete sets... not all 4 are offered anymore and I suspect the other three only have a limited time since all the extra parts for these rigs are being killed off by Toyota anyway.

    I think since Tenneco pretty much has a monopoly on replacement and "upgrade" branded shocks, I'm going to go with the only competitor. I'm looking at some KYB Gas-a-Just shocks, for something as simple as the LC setup they should ride nice on road, if I wheeled it I wouldn't bother with low pressure gas shocks at all but it's a pavement queen so these should be okay.

    Oh you gotta be kidding??? I had no idea Tokico went away, well the true original stuff anyway. I hadn't stayed caught up in all of that stuff.
    Well it sounds like you have the right plan on what to go with.
    Coils at each corner and a nice shock to dampen.... 80 series might be the pinnacle of Land Cruiser suspensions.
    I did like the KYB I installed on my old Geo Metro XFI lol:D

    Personally, I'd go with Bilstien over KYB. Much better shock for a stock replacement IMO.

    All I can tell you is it isn't very heavy, two people can lift it. Maybe 225lbs? I have no issue positioning it myself when I lift it off the truck with my cherry picker.

    Not very heavy. 300 or so would be my guess. 2 people can lift it but it's still very awkward so 3 or 4 is better when removing/installing. Or use an engine hoist.

    They're sort of a different style, I see what you mean, but Bilsteins are digressive and high pressure. I've run them on a few vehicles and I really don't like how they ride. They're good quality, but for some reason every Billy that I've run seems to think it has to be part spring too because they're beyond firm and because they're digressive they don't give on high impact, they give at high shaft speed. I can really only do Billies on cars, and they can't be comfort cars, has to be for handling.
