What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Late af to the crawl box chat, but can Atlas go true flat belly or damn close? That's part of my goal in the process of doing a crawl box when the time comes.

 

I’m reading his thread now. Have you started with your parts gathering yet?

 

Anything can go flat belly with enough cut off wheels.

breynolds in the silver double cab put one in his and I think he has a flat belly. He clocked his as far as he can side ways and only had to massage the trans tunnel from what I remember. If I can ever pony up the money I’ll get one and sell my duals but it won’t be for a while.

There isn't much left on the truck I haven't taken the death wheel to at this point. Fenders, cab, frame, bed... you name it, I cut it.

 

Paint or wrap? Looks like paint. What happened to the rocker under the door?

 

Is there a “master parts” list somewhere? I’ve browsed several swap threads. Just wondering if they all pulled from list somewhere.

 

Rudely interrupted from rain but got a few pieces back on. Lining all the plastic really changed the look of the truck. I’ll post better side by sides when it isn’t raining and everything back together. To anyone tired of eased plastic and has access to do this, I strongly recommend it.

 

Pretty sure one of his posts has the end all be all list in it. I’m on my phone so it’s a PITA to search etc (plus it’s bookmarked on my computer’s browser).

I'm late to the discussion, but here's my $0.02. I really don't even know what the original question was, but definitely get you some major gear reduction. It is so freaking awesome. I love it. It's the bee's knees. It's the jelly on your peanut butter sammich. It makes the sky more blue. It makes your wife look at you like she did when you were love-struck kids.

I use the TG case. I have nothing but good to say for it. I also use the RADesigns triple sticks. Big fan of that also.

I prefer the plasma approach now a days but my truck hides in fear when I start sitting around looking at it and ordering consumables now a days hahaha

 

Yeah I am getting more used to cutting and drilling into my truck. Was like a new mother at first lol But at some point you just commit and pull the trigger

 

I personally didn't use a master parts list. It took quite a few hours / days of research to figure some stuff out and even then a few items were still kinda questionably documented. There are other aspects as well, given that you can do the swap a couple ways. I'd be happy to smash out a quick master list of the way I went about it in my build thread, using existing vehicle wiring and swapping the ECU w/o a donor vehicle.

 

Last we spoke on this subject there were several people interested in participating and I think I told you to start collecting parts

I am happy to come up and help out. Just need a place to crash/work from and a solid internet connection

Figure you might start a thread about it so other interested parties can contribute their input as needed. I can work remotely so driving up one weekend and back the next is a good option...

 

Replaced the carrier bearing on my 1999. Pretty simple job other than trying to break some of those bolts loose. The double wrench method was the way to go.

My place sounds perfect for that. Unless the garage addition is happening then I might have to hold off until that’s complete.

 

So fun little project today. I’ve never been a fan of the deck plate mod. Given it opens up the box to engine heat. But I’ve been contemplating a way to make “stealth ram air” for the truck. I finished a “rough draft” so to speak today. Cost maybe $10. Though completely reversible, it is capable of being blocked off to go back to stock. Originally intended to glass in an opening to the grill cutout, which may still happen, but I think I like this better. Planning on incorporating a pvc ball valve to easily close off for heavy rain. But honestly not too worried about moisture. Planning on going to a water/meth system in the fall anyway. After test driving if I like this I’ll paint it black and add a mesh screen over the opening. If it leans the truck out no big deal. Like I said, lots of things I have planned for the SC this fall.

Not much different than what the stock air box already does, I guess maybe you'll get a little air pushed in but can't imagine it's a lot.
