First truck ever and can't decide which is more useful. So far, we have used the truck for a number runs to the dump, hauling kayaks/bicycles, and camping.

Folding bed cover is cheaper, easier to remove and can be left in place on the off chance I need to haul a refrigerator.

Truck cap let's me securely transport bicycles, I can put the dog crates in and tote the big dog easily, good for family camping storage.

We currently live in the PNW, but will likely move someplace hot and humid in a few years.

    What would you buy? Why?

I vote a hard cap or softopper... I've compromised a few times already.... folding tonneau to a retracting tonneau, to a softopper w/ a over the top bed rack... I've spent the money a few times over if I would of just got the cap in the first place! That's just me though!

One day when I find a nice hard top for cheap, I'll replace the softopper!!

The Softopper is the best of all worlds, IMHO. Good dry storage and access. Easy to fold if you need space. Easy to remove and store.

So true. I had a rollup tonneau for a couple years. It was nice enough, but access was less than ideal and storage was too limited.

I need to sell that thing.

I had dreams of a GFC, but I gave up, esp as I have no place to store it if needed.

Yea, I probably will never get that hard top now that I have the camping trailer being made.... So softopper will be my life, realistically! The hard top was going to be for more insulation and camping in the back of the truck.

Nice! That would solve the RTT problem very easily.

My ST field test was in slightly below freezing temps. I was impressed. It put thoughts of a Mr Buddy to bed. :D

I was solo, but I did do 2up in the past. Nissan hardbody with a crappy sleeping bag, no pad, and an aluminum cap. That sucked!

It did great here, but we don't get weather like you do. Still, snow was no big deal for the couple times that it dumped here.

The company shows snow covered pics on their site but says to be very careful with clear vinyl parts as they will get hard and crack in below freezing weather. There are solid panel options to help deal with that?

cool thanks...I guess I could just take it off during the winter months unless it needs to be utilized.
