If you’ve got an iPhone, Apple Maps will actually recognize “little lost cove cliffs” as a destination. If you look NE of the cliffs you’ll see a clearing. Right in there is a dead end forest service road that has a campsite just at the end of it. That’s my favorite hideout spot. Good hikes down to a beautiful creek and just about a mile East on Pineola road you’ll run into several trail systems.

little lost cove cliffs are also an epic rock outcropping

Old NC 105 trip this weekend was one for the books. But I can say I found out real quick, I need to do my suspension mods ASAP

Just hang that food up or put it in the truck and they won’t mess with you. I’ve only had bears come into camp when we had food out.

plus these bears are scaredy-cat bears

    Good idea

I carry about 40’ of webbing and a carabineer no matter if I’m backpacking or car camping so I can hang food in a pinch. Two 20’ sections make hanging food simple. Single rope makes it much more of a pain in the ass

We are up off old McDonald 105. Not sure if the bears will bother us or not but it’s going in the truck just in case

Other than the trash, the other food is in a yeti cooler. So hopefully we won’t have any issues

I actually had a bear in camp off 105 when I was out there several years ago. We were cooking steak and he was hell bent on getting a taste. After running him off three or four times we finally locked everything up in our cars and he never came back.

yeti should be fine. Just know they are smart. When I was guiding i had one bear get my food. We hung it about 12’ off ground and probs 5’ from the nearest limb. I watched him climb the tree and fall directly on top of the food and bring it to the ground. It was impressive

never underestimated them from then on lol

Black bears run more than grizzly's unless they've been conditioned by people that we are a food source and where to go and get food.
As long as you know the difference in a black bear and a grizzly you are good.

We did find the campsite, and we did go to the cliffs. It was a great weekend for sure. 200+ dirt miles accumulated this weekend
