    Yes they do...lol

One kitten from the last batch allowed me to get close enough to pet it, but these aren't quite that comfortable with me. They will run to the edge of the deck when I open the door, then jump off when I walk to the food bowls. I see them looking at me from the bottom of the steps, but they won't walk back onto the deck until I'm headed back into the house. Hope these stick around long enough to become comfortable with me.

I’m definitely no expert but idea would be is to make yourself visible while they’re eating. If they’re hungry enough they’ll eat. After they get comfortable with you being there you can get a little closer to them at each feeding. Maybe if you have a chair to sit in outside they would feel less threatened than if you were standing. Definitely a cute pair of kitties and I hope they end up hopping on your lap outside someday.

Not all cats can be totally domesticated. My little female showed up as a kitten. Five years later she still hides most of the day bit cuddles at night. No idea what happened to her but it couldn’t have been good.

Loud noises or fast movements srnd her scampering off. Over the years she’s gotten better but I doubt she’ll ever be completely at ease. She literally goes ballistic if you try to put her in a carrier.

Thanks, I'll try that. I think it might work with the kittens, but not sure if the older feral cats will go for it...lol

sounds just like my wife's cat Mai Thai. He was less than a year old when she got him but he had a rough life on the streets before that. Found him covered in motor oil in a parking garage. He's 7 years old now and it took him 3 years of living with me before he would let me anywhere near him. But he's scared of his own shadow and spends most days hiding in a corner by the window trying to attack birds from behind the glass lol. Or attacking feet from under the bed.

He has feral instincts still that will never go away completely, for instance he'll eat anything you put in front of him...human food or otherwise, just like a dog. My cat Harley won't touch anything but his dry cat food.

and if you try and put Mai Thai in a carrier you better make sure your last will and testament is up to date

    This one was once feral...
Lived in the woods around our home. Never came within 10 yards of me and would flee as soon as the door cracked open.
I put out a small food bowl 20 yards out, and only put in enough kibble to keep her interested and barely fed. Each day I put more in, I’d talk out loud and shake the bag as I walked. Once a week I moved the bowl closer. Finally, I stayed sitting along side the bowl but let her eat without touching her. After a few days of that, I gently reached over while she ate and she let me pet her.

She’s never been feral since. What I mean is that she readily adapted to domestic living right away with our 4 others. Our home is quiet. No loud blaring music, no kids yelling. Usually some nice music on and me working from home. I genuinely believe that calm setting has a lot to do with how readily she adapted.

she’s def ‘my cat’ now. Follows me around like a shadow.

    Sounds like mine

When I first held mine I had no idea the noise she was making was a sign of discomfort and that she was about to fuck me up

Both of mine are senior rescues, the tuxey was abandoned at one and left in an empty apartment and then spent 6ish years in a shelter before we scooped her up. We've had her almost 2 years and she's finally starting to let up and let us be affectionate with her, its upsetting to think that anyone can just leave an animal in an empty apartment to die for any reason but at least we finally got through to her. On the other hand the ginger was a street cat for basically as long and doesn't give a fuck about anything other than food and lovin' hahaha

    lol.

Every one of mine was an abandoned kitten. From Auggie & Ponce all the way to the newest asshole Marty.

We've been quite fortunate with their temperament. The current three oranges are all a bit skittish, with Ollie in the lead. But for the most part they are all very loving and cuddlers. :D
