Didn't mean it to be an ass or anything.

I had noticed some have Toyo's and some have Firestone's, 2wd and 4wd both. Been curious how that decision was made.

Ya I decided it was too much to do to my brand new daily driver and went with tall skinny 33” M/Ts. Combined with a 2” lift they improved off-road performance noticeably. On-road performance suffered, but that’s why I kept the stock A/Ts on separate rims.

My guess is cost and logistics. I think that’s the reason they don’t list tire brands in the specs. The same is generally true of bicycles. The OEM sources whatever is the cheapest tire is in the general performance range based on a high volume contract.

My thought was it possibly due to them being built in two separate locations - Texas and Mexico. But now that they're all built in Mexico maybe it will be the same tire for all?

Who knows. Definitely cost and logistics play a part.

That makes sense and is what I meant by logistics. Minimizing shipping costs is something I would assume they consider.

Toyota does some weird shit, they used to use 3 Denso and 3 NGK spark plugs on V6s.

Nah! That was all on me. I had only seen Toyos on Sports so far.

I don't even have a clue about how the split was done on the SR / SR5.

Regardless, I can say for certain that there are better all around ATs than those two All-Seasons. It cramps my brain to think how bad the Toyos were in rain.

I keep thinking about a lift, but I goof around too much on road and am happy where the Sport is with just the sway bar gone. Good handling at the limits and great feel offroad. If it wasn't a DD, I might go another direction.

One possible advantage of the all-seasons is fuel economy. My fuel economy went from 22 to 18 mpg when I traded in the SR5 for the OR. It’s not a great comparison, because other things changed, but I would not be surprised if part of the difference could be attributed to the tires.

I was really worried as these taller and heavier Wildpeaks (+10lb) were going to kill my MPGs. From what I have seen since, winter fuel really tanked it. The Softopper has some effect, but the tires not too much. Maybe 0.5mpg? That's corrected for the 5% odo difference compared to GPS.

I was surprised and am getting about 21mpg over the last bunch of fillups. No trips to speak of, because no vaca.

My thought is the effect of tire weight on fuel economy is exaggerated. I have an understanding of the physics of rotational inertia vs translational inertia, but I don’t think it is a big factor in this case. Rotational inertia of the tires is only lost when you hit the brakes and is small compared to translational inertia of the whole truck. I think the bigger factors are likely rubber compound, rubber thickness, tread design, tire size, and inflation pressure. All of these can affect the rolling resistance of the tire and thus affect how much kinetic energy the tires convert to heat and noise at all times.

Yeah. I had that one way wrong. I think it was @Stocklocker that provided me with the real analysis. Riders would get their heads cramped by tire and wheel weights. It way less than was BS'ed about.

I am also happy with the pressure. I found that 35 on the roads feels right compared with 29 given on the door sticker. That was mushy handling with zero feel. Zero wear issues Stock or over 10k in on the ATs. This setup and wear might not be the same for others.

The rare instance where things are going my way. :D

I love how a thread with a title including the term “ride height” turns into a discussion about the tire fuel economy.

    Take that back! :rofl::rofl:

I'm a Texas build. In all honesty, all Tacos from SR to Pro are really, really close in capability Stock. We make wayy too much here about what are small differences. Solid trucks in and out.

Also, I would say the Goodyears are only marginally better. There are plenty of posts about folks who don't like them. In fact, the first snow wheeling that I did was with an Goodyear equipped OR. I saw MTS / CC do the voodoo, but in general, my Sport was no better than the OR. Here's some details:

When did they stop building Tacoma in Texas?

They haven't switched fully over yet. I believe they're changing it sometime next year?
