    this and that...
supposedly all the oem trd pro parts youll need a vin. there are more than several places that will bypass this. i know when i tried to buy my 2020 pro exhaust (black chrome tip) the parts dude initially gave me a hard time saying he needed a pro vin. then one of my boys whos the service manager was walking by and told em just sell it to me. which was fantastic cause if i were to use one of the online dealers that dont ask for vin, the freight woulda been astronomical. they did the same thing for the 2020 leds. for that, im gonna use i think it was sparks toyota and just eat the shipping. it was the cheapest option for me and i looked at a lot of places.

These are the “Pro Parts” ( might be missing some). Some are more challenging to purchase from Toyota like the suspension and grille but where there’s a will there’s a way. Pro take-offs are also a nice option to save some $

The first iterations (2012-2014 BAJA and 2015 PRO) required VIN numbers to order the suspension, grille and bead lock wheels, Toyota then wised up realizing they could make a sh*t ton of money selling the accessories to the masses. I remember when the bead locks would go for $1200 here if you could even find a set.

What makes the Pro exclusive? What sets it apart from other Tacoma models that you can't do to a TRD OR or even a SR to make it a Pro? It's the same engine and subframe right?
Do the 4x4 enhancements make it exclusive? You can add a factory e locker, Crawl Control, Fox 2.0 Shocks, Snorkel hell you can even add the leather seats. Takes effort it's expensive might as well buy a Pro if you're going to do that, but it's still available. It takes less effort if it's a TRD OR. This is where I think the rub lies.

There is not much difference between a TRD OR and a Pro. At this point you're paying for convenience and a branding, there is nothing wrong that. But the TRD Pro you're buying is not exclusive. I know that's tough to hear but it's the truth. I have my flame proof undies on so fire away! =)

Bottom line is if you take a TRD OR and add all OEM factory Pro parts then by all intents and purposes you have a TRD Pro. Nothing is different, the truck is identical in form and function. It's not a replica it's a TRD Pro. What? Did the people at the factory who added the same OEM Pro parts as you do something different? No. The only difference is it came from the factory as a Pro and it's in the Vin. You paid for the convenience of not having to add all the stuff that made it the Pro you just bought.

In the end it semantics. There is nothing wrong with buying a TRD Pro. It's an awesome truck. You literally have the pinnacle of what the truck can be made into without spending the time and money to do it yourself. There is nothing wrong with that.

    My opinion of course.

Yes, absolutely. Just in the same way that a dude is a chick because his preferred pronouns are she / hers. Never mind the caulk in between her legs...

To the 32 people that voted yes, when you take your Pro dressed up off-road Tacoma and try to sell it, do you list it as a pro?

My truck identifies as a Tacoma with a 5.7L engine and a back seat that doubles as base camp.

You're acting as if having the Pro badge is some sort of magical key to Narnia.

If I had a TRD OR and it had all the same OEM parts as a TRD Pro that I added then yes it would command the same premium as the Pro at resale.
It's the same dam truck lol!

Honestly were not comparing a E350 Mercedes to a E63 AMG Mercedes. In this case there is a HUGE difference between the two mainly a hand built engine.

I actually remember this, I had a friend that tried to get some Pro parts for a 2015 Tacoma and he couldn't get them from the dealer because his Vin didn't say Pro. He tried ebay as well.

In this case this made the 2015 Tacoma Pro exclusive as you could not easily upgrade with OEM parts.

    Well that settles it. =)

I am not saying that you can pass off a TRD OR as a Pro. I am saying that if a TRD OR has the same OEM equipment as a Pro it's the same truck.

I am not sure how that logic can be argued.

I'm just saying the VIN, valuation when the bank loan is called in, etc. Sorta like the people who try to pawn off non TRDs as TRDs and TRDs as PROs you see littered on autotrader, etc with prices reflecting that, but what do they say "there's a butt for every seat" or a "sucker born every minute". IDK.

    Didn’t answer my question

I am not disagreeing with you, but for the sole reason the Pro has vin that qualifies it as a pro, it will fetch way more money.
Take a DCSB off-road, mod it EXACTLY as a pro and take it to a dealer to sell or trade in. An off road will likely be worth a lot less than a pro because it’s modded, Oem parts or not. You know the general consensus on modded anything, it’s worth less than a equivalent stock counterpart.

Yes I get that and that's not what I am am saying here.

A TRD OR with the same OEM equipment added as a TRD Pro is a TRD Pro. It's the same truck. It's just different badging.

I mean if the 2 trucks were next to each other there indistinguishable. Why should one command a higher price? In this instance what makes the Pro exclusive?
The badge? The Vin? They have the same equipment it's the same truck.

I bet there aren’t many OR’s that have ALL of the OEM Pro parts. That’s would be even rarer than an actual pro!
