That's great to know. Always like hearing what others have great success with. Overture is my go to. Also, creality has their own line which has been great as well. Only reason I picked up inland is that it was cheap and had the color in stock at microcenter when I went for something else. Lesson learned on that one lol

    It printed!

    20200725_171749.jpg

One of the upper supports failed, hence all the poop, but it was able to tape some of it in place, and the part came out just just fine... except for a ton of stress towards the base.

    20200725_183419.jpg

^^ That's the buildplate interface at the bottom, which according to my calculations, was supposed to be flat!

All the other supports worked great and weren't too difficult to remove.

    20200725_205946.jpg

Here's a test fit of the electrical stuff.. a bit tighter than planned, but not too bad. The faceplate, which I already ordered, will probably be a pain to fit... the shrinkage was a lot more than I expected.

    20200726_060803.jpg

This week I'm leaving it in the sun all day, then putting it in the freezer at night. If it doesn't crack too bad I'll install it next weekend. One crack has already started near the bottom of the print, which is the most warped. But I can probably weld it once it's done opening up.

    20200726_061908.jpg

Oh, and the baseplate adhesion was still really strong, even though half the part had warped so badly that it came up by several mm. The sketchy wobbles as the print progressed were just due to the looseness of the stage on my printer.

For the record, here are the slicer/ print settings that arguably worked for me in my bone stock ender3pro:

    Sunlu PETG
    240C / 75C
100% fan except for base (yes perhaps why it warped so much, but try as I might, printing always went terribly without max fan)
    80 m/s speed (40 for walls and ceilings/floors)
    6mm retraction at 20mm/s
    0.2mm slicing
110% flow except for base layer at 115% (no I did not recalibrate the extruder, stock calibration worked perfectly for PLA)

Luckily I was able to machine the warped mating part to get it to fit perfectly, which is good because I don't have enough filament to reprint it.

    20200725_233113.jpg

ETA: I have been pretty pleased with the magnetic mat thing that comes with the E3P. When I was deciding whether to buy the Pro over the regular E3 (or for that matter, whether to by a printer at all), it seemed like this goofy buildplate mat was easily the weakest aspect of the upgrade package. And perhaps it is, but I have to admit, it performed at least okay for my first-ever home 3D printing project.

I'm sure someday I'll dive further down the rabbit hole and spend hundreds more on mods and upgrades, but it's nice knowing that isn't required to start making acceptably mediocre parts for my truck.

Printed this geometric vase... unfortunately it stuck so well to the bed that it ripped the bottom off when I tried to pull it off the printer. Other than the bottom issue, the print was pretty impressive- each face is faceted and looks pretty rad. I am printing a new one, 50% bigger.

    Lol that's too funny.

I've been printing stuff for my printer to shoosh it up a bit and help provide some dust/cleanliness control. I'll post pics later of the v channel covers, lcd cover, and other misc parts.

Does petg and pla filament have a shelf life? I picked up some of the polaroid pla and petg they had on clearance at JoAnn Fabric, just got them today and noticed 2 were manufactured a year ago and 1 10 months ago. I mean it's not like it's a gallon of milk or anything but just wondering if it degrades or NBD?

$20 a piece for 1kg polaroid petg and $16 for 1kg pla... I also bought some of the 1kg sculpto pla at $22 a spool.

All filament will absorb moisture. If it was sealed with desiccant packets you should be fine.

Knocked out a few prints I've been promising some friends I'd do. Apparently I forgot to get pics of one... Printed in ASA so they won't fade.

My e3p has been fighting me the last few days with various issues. Been sorting them out one at a time. Hopefully I'll be back in business soon.

I'm not an expert either but I've seen some guys say to print PETG much slower than PLA. Might be worth trying to slow down that print speed too.

Well... PLA won't work in an engine bay... just in case you were wondering.. HAHA
    BDAAA7F3-8248-421E-82A0-EB1B26BE2A60_1_105_c.jpg

I printed the same file in PETG and it came out great- unfortunatly I only had transparent blue. I drove around all day yesterday in 90 degree heat and it didn't sag at all.

I just got my shipment of ESun PETG in black and some rad looking glow in the dark PLA to screw with. So I am printing it again in black.

Glow in the dark filament often has abrasive materials in it that will wear nozzles out faster.

Petg can go to about 160 degrees. Though large overhangs may sag with less and I've heard some say it sags overtime without heat. But the layer bond is the best. Abs is where I would start with engine compartment heats.

Yea. I said a few times, I don't even bother with PLA anymore. I don't see the advantage to PLA to make me ever want to use it for anything.

Used PLA to mockup a design, itnallowed mentor test fit and modify the design until I had it right, now I can send it off to the laser cutter.

Yea I guess my point is you can do the same thing with PETG for the same cost but the parts are more durable.
