VIBRATIONS FIXED!!! explanation and pics

The 3/4 inch and 1 inch spacers included with the Pro Comp 6 inch kit did nothing but move vibrations to different mph's for me and never elliminated take off vibs completely. A call to Pro Comp suggested this.

THE FIX - Pro Comp part# EXP-57091B. Transmission Crossmember/Carrier Bearing Drop. Purchased for $169 from Summit Racing. It has since gone up to $236.95.

This part drops the rear of the transmission and allows for a larger carrier bearing drop. The carrier bearing is dropped 3 inches.

The part in the upper right is for 2WD applications only. I did not use it.






Pro Comp supplied the wrong bolts for bolting the carrier bearing to the drop. Had to make a trip to the hardware store.






THIS PART ELLIMINATED ALL VIBRATIONS!!! I tested from numerous dead stops to 80mph. I couldn't be happier

 

Did you have a take off shudder before or some other vibe?

 

IMO that is a horrible idea. That puts a different angle on the motor, which can mess alot of things up. The first thing would be your fan hitting the shroud. And its probably not very good for the motor mounts.

sandjunkie, yes take off vibs. truck feels more solid than ever now. If you are worried about stress on other items, you probably wouldn't lift your truck to begin with. The tranny probably only came down an inch and a half to help get everything in line.

 

by the time one invests time, money, and energy in the various drops I imagine a one piece double cardan drive shaft might begin to be in reach, no?

 

Lift blocks are already tapered. I have experimented with different CB drops between 0-1 inch. I don't have vibes anywhere but a take off situation slight shudder. I don't know if it is the carrier bearing/driveline angle or leafspring axle wrap.

Any suggestions?

 

x2... it may be okay, for now, but could lead to problems further down the road. kinda like spacer lifts, everything seems all fine and dandy at first, but sooner or later you end up replacing ball joints, shocks, uca's etc...

 

All I know is I like the truck again. Vibrations were driving me crazy. Now if only I could make my truck a double cab long bed.

 

To fix mine i just put an all pro pack with a set of 3* shims in the rear.

 

an 1 1/2 down.thats alot till it gets to the front of the motor.keep an eye on those motor mounts.
