Locking tailgate (that's better quality than Pop and Lock)?

I routed my wiring following the factory wiring from the camera all the way up front. Went into the engine compartment and through the firewall there.
If you pull the small tray on the lower drivers side of the dash you will see a plug with the 2 blue wires on it. Plug is easy to remove and gives access to the wires you need to get to.
Hardest part was running the wiring with the factory wiring above the gas tank. Had to use a straightened coat hanger to fish it through.

Yes that is the one. There are more than 2 wires but the ones you want are together and by themselves easy to find.

Ok...done................................sorta.

Couple things to keep in mind, at least from my experience.

1) Apparently, if you have an aftermarket handle, the dynolock wont work. OR....I'm too stupid to figure out how to orient it to make it work. I ended up using a pop and lock I bought a LONG time ago (I know, waste either way, but I liked the dyno better at first glance, and from reviews), and the P&L works. I think it needs more support, based on the "Twa-a-a-a-ang" I hear every time I shut the tailgate lol. Might try to find a factory handle if the P&L looks like it's gonna be trouble. We'll see.

2) I ran the wiring out the drain hole in the tailgate, using the plastic clip....things (square things that open up), drilling a hole in each one, then along the wiring harness to the drivers side, following the harness that that comes forward from the bumper, over the axle and brake lines, over the gas tank (wire hanger, good idea MrFixIt), along the frame and up through the grommet right under the driver's door. It comes out under the seat and can be accessed after you take off the kick panel (the one you might step on when getting in and out....the flat one by the seat). Of course, using zip ties where necessary/possible.

Blue/black and blue/red wires for the 4 door 2015.

To bad the first one wouldn't fit properly. I am super happy with the Pace Edwards unit we got. No funny sounds and it locks solid.
Now on to the next mod....

 

Yea, I opened and closed my tailgate a dozen times today after I got it installed. Tomorrow......add support to the pop n lock so it stops sounding like an old country song.

Pace Edwards...I'll have to look for that, for when and if the PL gives it up. Also need to add the paracord mod when I open it back up to fix the twang....juuuuuust in case.

I also noticed now that PL makes a new and improved version that's all mounted on a plate and attaches to BOTH handle mounting bolts.

Anyhow, it's done til it's DONE, then it sounds like Pace Edwards is a way to go.

Paracord mod? ?

 

I can't find it on here, but some folks tie a length of paracord to the locking pin/bar/whatever...the thing that the solenoid moves...and then loop it down and hang it out the bottom of the tailgate (barely out) in case the lock fails and leaves you locked out of your tailgate...especially if you have a tonneau cover. I'll take pictures tomorrow when I do it.

The paracord mod....also you can see the board (1x2) that I used to support the P&L. Little epoxy, couple screws...way better than it was. Ding dong, the twang is gone.


As you can see, the paracord barely sticks out the bottom of the tailgate, and behind the lip if looking at the tailgate from the outside. But it could be hooked with something and pulled to unlock if ever necessary.


You can barely see the paracord here. This is from the outside and below. It's there, trust me lol. Just below center vertically, and just left of center, horizontally.

 

Sweet will have to do that.
Can't believe the unit you have is mounted with only one screw. A brand name like that one should have done better. The PE I have uses 2 of the mounting screws and is solid. Oh well it looks like you got it fixed. Nothing bubblegum, bailing wire or duct tape can't fix.

 

Yea I noticed the new P&L version has a plate that goes all the way across and uses both mounting bolts (as I type this, it seems like I mentioned this before....).....(yep, I did...getting old sucks as much as my memory).

Bubble gum and bailing wire lol.........accurate.

 

Just a heads up:

If you order a dynoproducts lock, you better hope it will line up and work for you. They "normally don't accept returns on 'electronic' things". Electronic....his word, not mine.

So keep that in mind, when ordering.

 

This is very good to know considering I recently purchased one of the Dyno locks. Having a hard time consistently reaching Ed (owner?). Going to give them a chance but so far I'm not confident in the order process...

Update 6/6/21: 100% do not recommend DynoProducts/DynoLock due to a flawed design and terrible customer service. Write up coming sometime in future. Avoid using this product!

Update 3/15/22: Finally wrote up a full product review, click here to see it. Apparently this company no longer exists and the scumbags stole my $140 for faulty products.

 

Yea, he's a really nice guy before you order. And he may be a nice guy all the time, but he's not nearly as helpful after he has your $125.

I couldn't find a way to orient the device so the little "pin" that comes out of the plastic block would actually lock the handle from moving. You'll know what I mean when you get it.

Or if you don't, please come back on here, maybe with pictures of the device you get...I suppose it's possible they sent me the wrong one, but what I ordered and he confirmed on the phone, was the one for a 15 taco. That will make for yet another call about, not "returning" something I don't need....but "exchanging" something that was sent in error. Hopefully, he don't have a policy against correcting his own mistakes, if that turns out to be the case.....guess we shall see.
